A new version of the release candidate for Bernd Gabriel's helpful work on merging the latest stable version of Standard into the latest version of Experimental, Simutrans 112.1.1 Experimental 11.0009, is available here. This is just the Windows binary, but it should suffice for testing purposes. (Edit: 2310h 10th of March - the link now points to the correct version, whereas previously it pointed to the previous version - apologies for the error).

It is based on version 112.1.1 of Standard, merged into Experimental by Bernd, and work that I have done in the last few months to reform the routing of private cars (to make it workable on larger maps: see here for a discussion on this) and also the work to improve the simulation of passengers walking (see here for a discussion of that feature). This is the first time that the latter two features have been present in a release candidate build, or have been implemented alongside the latest Standard features: the merging of the two has been helpfully done by Bernd this week-end.

This is also the first release candidate to bear the new major version number, 11, which should be the number of the next major release. This is significant, as the version number affects what data are saved when the game is saved. A number of features had been introduced in recent versions of the 10.x releases which had generated data to be saved under the new version number. Although there were mechanisms designed to prevent this from causing desynchronisation of network connected games by resetting these data to a default number when the game was loaded/saved in network mode, recent problems with the online game suggests that this may well not have worked correctly, as desynchronisation often occurred as a result of players joining (triggering a load/save cycle).

I should be very grateful for all testing of this version, which will hopefully (with whatever modifications that such testing shows are necessary) become the next major release of Simutrans-Experimental. I should particularly appreciate feedback on the new features relating to passenger walking and the use of private cars, as well as the usual feedback on stability and performance. Please post a separate thread for each bug or topic/issue of feedback.

To make the most of the passenger walking feature, I suggest that players set their station coverage radii to a much higher than normal value (in the simuconf.tab file of the pakset used): a value of 16 is recommended.

Thank you all for testing - it is much appreciated.
