Fictional UK, ROI and NW France in Simutrans Extended
« on: December 10, 2016, 09:14:38 PM »
Edit: June 2017. This thread documents the fictional UK, ROI and NW France map, recreating the British Rail (and the french network in a fictional manor) using Simutrans Extended in a more fictional way which makes it more fun and interesting in terms of town/city names. Also the title (name) of the map (thread) has been shortened.

This is how the map looks like has of the last update.

Also, huge respect (credit) to Lewis for making the addons for the map and the Ireland part of the map will be built up when Lewis (hopefully) makes the trains. :D

Reminds me of Basingstoke, with the turning siding serving terminating trains in platform 1 :)

Looking good. What exactly are your future plans for the map? Will you be introducing any express trains or anything like that? Just curious.

Nice screenshots! I'm intrigued to hear more about how the map relates to reality - you're using a mixture of real and fictional names for lines and places.

Offline fam621

I think that having a fictional map is better than having such a real map which is boring at times but at the same time its still fun. But, I think that fictional maps are better.

The update is now out featuring a lot of changes to the timetable and the Scotland network been done up has well has new trains been added to the routes that run up there. Also, you will need these addon's or the trains will be auto replaced. Click here for the addons. Also, credit to Lewis for the addon's.

Fam, this thread is about Carl's Great Britain map and whatever Carl himself decides to discuss. Unless he takes it up himself, this thread is not about your map, Lewis vehicles, dat file coding problems, other simutrans problems etc. there are other threads for those discussions/problem solvings. Other people reading this thread are not interested in that if it's not related to the subject of the thread. Lastly, remember what we talked about earlier about asking other people to do stuff for you? ;)
Respect Lewis answer as is and don't bug him.
Now, please don't answer to this, we should really get back to hear more about Carl's Great Britain map (and more about your map in your thread)! :)

I actually need to because, I feel kind of offended now. The part about Lewis involves progress.... Its true that its Mr. Bakers map but at the same time, I might want to joke around. Also, I can only make liveries for trains, not compile them, has that's too much to take up on my mind ATM. In-fact, let me be honest now, I only play Simutrans for fun, not to get shouted at by other people....

Offline Ves

I'm sorry if I sounded like shouting, it was not my intention.
And of course it's ok to joke around to some extent :)
We are all here for the fun of playing simutrans, and I like reading updates about your map and look at the pictures to get inspiration! :) also I use it occasionally to test bugs and the GUI elements I'm working on.

[INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT NEWS] Work on the fictional railway system in France has started with a commuter line been built on the patch of land which comes with the UK map. Also, the Eurostar route is been built with a few small problems along the way and hopeful that it gets fixed and the tunnel built before the next update. A picture of the progress has been attached below.

Note: ROI means the Republic of Ireland. :)

The update is now out and available to download. Here is the updated savegame. Also, these addons are needed, otherwise the trains will be auto replaced. This update will feature alot of changes mainly in Scotland where congestion has been fixed and solved and Haymarket station has been built to real life specs. The screenshot below is of the updated Swiningcaster East Junction where the Cotwold's Line, the Crawhill Airport branch and the main GWML meet and diverge away from each-over and also has you can see, I extended the slow lines to the junction so that less congestion is caused.

Also, the french (fictional) network has been completed and I got a surprising result from it and I hope you enjoy the update and also, credit to Lewis for the addon's. :)

Newcastle Station has been updated with the Swansea - Glasgow CrossCountry services been timetabled to serve there and the bypass line removed. Picture below. Also, the siding that you can see to the east of the station is for the newly added Newcastle - Carlisle service operated by Northern and the services to Langwathby have also been diverted to use that line. Also with the Leeds - Barrow-in-Furness line serving it. :)

Edit: 15/07/2017: At the time of edit, the Leeds - Barrow-in-Furness line was added to the map.

With HS2 plans now down the drain, I have now turned to other things which will make rail travel better such has station upgrades and increasing line speeds and building new stations has part of Network Rail's 21st century upgrade of the railway. Also, as part of the plans Kings Cross (Upper Level) has been rebuilt to make it look more real and to allow more trains to serve the station.

1. I could upload it so people who want to see it and modify it can (with your permission of course).

Yes. What exactly have you done apart from the airport?

Made a new Airport line from Dillgate instead of the LONG service from Hendington. Anyways, I'll give you the map that we are gonna work on later.

Is the map going to be set in modern times only? Because I thought it would be nice if the map was set in the past - say for example it started in 1900 - and then we could build the map and showcase the changes throughout the times. Just an idea.

My ideas for the map would be:
- An electrified mainline like the WCML/ECML
- Suburban electric branches off of the mainline
- Three or more different termini for that mainline
- Urban commuter lines
- Transpennine-style diesel mainline
- Rural diesel branch lines
- Numerous freight lines
- Express trains (Utilizing the Class 87/91 sets for electrics, HST sets for diesels)
- Electric commuter and regional trains (319/321 for longer distance/faster, 313/317 for shorter distance/slower)
- Diesel commuter and regional trains (158 for long distance, 150/153/156 for medium distance, 142 for short distance)
- Freight trains (90/92 for electric, 37/47 (57) for diesel)
- Urban trains (323/142/15x)
- Tube trains

This will be super fun and interesting to follow! :)
How do you plan on working on the same map? Sending the savegame between each other or use some kind of server?
