The main problem is who decides who deserves a monument.

The monuments were originally meant to be an incentive for the very few people that offered help. For a young and not very popular project, it is very difficult to attract helpers.

Nowadays here are so many helpers that Vilvoh's point is very true, it'll be hard to decide who gets a monument. This is different if only 3 or 5 people actually help, there it was pretty easy to decide.
