Title: Proxy to load online games
Post by: Yona-TYT on January 10, 2014, 04:22:34 AM

Hello everyone..!

I was wondering if there is any way to use proxy service to load a game online.

The problem is that Simutrans uses direct internet connection and this is not working for me.  :-[

That depends on your proxy. If the proxy leaves the connection open and does not set up a new connection with each packet it would work. However, if this is not the case almost no online game will work.

You can try to use a VPN tunnel. This should also tunnel through a proxy, if implemented correctly. Or use IPv6, which should also go through a proxy (but then there is only one server at the moment).

No way.

Applications that do not have proxy configured (Address and Port) do not have internet access, it happens on my computer.

It is very unlikely that a proxy forwards the simutrans ports. Hence a VPN over port 8080 should work. People also use hamamachi to play simutrans.

But a proxy means that many user get the same IP and a considerably extra delay. I am not aware of any games working with a proxy (apart from running in the browser by JavaScript, which is something entirely different).
