Hi! I'm currently playing throught British Pak from 1780s and I would like to have some competition but I know how fast it can grow and that is quite unrealistic for the time period I am in. Is it possible to adjust how fast the AI companies grow?

Within the game itself, you cannot adjust the AI.
There was a patch around which allowed for AI scripting. I never did it myself, so I can't say much about it, but it should be implemented in the game by now.
