In Simutrans Standard, prissi  has chosen not to create translatable strings (iirc) of the various labels used in the settings dialogue, but rather has kept the actual variable names used in the simuconf.tab so that the parallelism between the 2 modes of specifying their values would be abundantly clear.

In Simutrans Exp. however, these strings are uploaded to SimuTranslator and thereby translatable. IMHO it makes sense to translate them, the variable names can be quite confusing, but I also believe that it is important to keep the connection to simply editing the simuconf.tab clear. I would suggest that the variable names ARE translated, but that the raw variable names are given as popups.
