Hi

Trying to connect to the server net:bridgewater-brunel.me.uk (via load game dialogue) using latest downloaded game and pakset and get the attached error.

I think that the code has been updated since the server executable was automatically updated very early this morning; perhaps try again to-morrow?

The index of new devel builds (http://server.exp.simutrans.com/Devel-new-builds/) is still the same today as yesterday. So since there is nothing I can update with, I presume it will still not work.

I get a fatal error when trying to join. Something to do with quickstone slot (3) already taken.

I am guessing I am using the wrong build or pakset? the instructions as to which the server is running are very confusing.

I agree it's not clear - if things are auto updating that's obviously fine & good, but to what are they updating?  Does it report it somewhere?

Ves

Im sorry, I have not had much time lately to regular update the devel-new builds (I compile and upload them manually). I think James is about to setup a proper nightly builds that will automatic create the new builds, however I think he said in another thread somewhere that the windows version does not work at the moment. They will eventually appear here: http://bridgewater-brunel.me.uk/downloads/nightly/

The information about the server.exp.simutrans.com can be found in this document: http://server.exp.simutrans.com/README.txt, but there is no information about the bridgewater-brunell server.

However, in the meantime, I have now compiled the latest executable and makeobj, and they should be available at http://server.exp.simutrans.com/Devel-new-builds/ :)

The build running on the server should be the same as the nightly build compiled automatically and available for download here.

I intend to alter the versioning system in Experimental so as to make the minor build number the same as the date of building so as to introduce a long-term nightly system, but I have not had time to do this yet, as I have to spend an enormous amount of time tracking down desync issues with passenger generation (and possibly other) multi-threading in network mode, which is extraordinarily time consuming as it involves running a very heavy game as a server, connecting to it as a client on the loopback interface (and the two load/save cycles required for this in debug mode can themselves take five minutes), running it for 10-20 minutes to see whether it desyncs, and, if it does, trying to guess what might have caused it, make one or two small changes, and running the whole thing again, a process which may have to be repeated scores of times before the problem is solved.

I might be looking in the wrong place (in the windows folder), but are there also windows builds there?

AP

Same question as Wes - and how do those differ from the ones listed on http://server.exp.simutrans.com/Devel-new-builds/ ?

James - I can only begin to appreciate the volume of work and effort involved in leading a project like this. I'm sure everyone here appreciates it's not a race.

jamespetts

I have not been able to get cross-compiling working yet, so Windows builds are not currently available. Hopefully they will be available soon.
