I want to load 1 car with coal for every 3 with iron on the same train to steel mill.  It keeps loading the coal till 100 percent, even though I have set load at 20 percent.  how can I change this so I get the desired ratioo?  and where do i find my screen shots?

You can't in this way. The percentage is the minimum load percentage, so it should only leave the station having been loaded at least that percentage. But there is no maximum.

There are several ways to solve this.
1) Have two trains independant of each other, e.g. one coal train to steel mill and one iron ore train to steel mill, both loaded 100%. This is the easiest way to handle things. If the iron ore you transport is less than the steel mill can handle, get another iron ore train in.
2) Make the platform where you load coal shorter than the train. It won't fill completely now. Then go to the iron ore station and fill the rest up. This won't work if you load coal and iron at the same station.
3) If you load coal and iron from the same station: just run one train. First it will transport coal until the steel mill is full with coal. Then it start transporting iron ore automatically, coal is not loaded anymore.

If you are using Windows, you will find it at My Documents\Simutrans\screenshots. On other operating systems you can find it in a similar directory.

It's a good trick. Beware short platforms and unloading, however - I recall being told ages ago there can be issues with e.g. passengers in the last coach being stuck on trains forever if the destination platform is too short for the train (someone technical can clarify I'm sure).

Yes, if at the destination station a passenger can't get out, he will be stuck in the train forever! Luckily for him, he will live forever too, and catering is not bad apparently...

But presumably, given an infinite length of time (or a century or so of rail travel), the last carriage will gradually get filled up with immortal passengers who can't disembark, and therefore is essentially dead weight being moved around.

Well, you still get paid for moving them around.

Love your reference.  Only wish I could view it.  Stuck with an outdated version of ubuntu as my os, and having trouble updating or loading any av content.  just nothing works.  even a later live install program using different iso images.
