I had a nice line that connected a refinery producing gas, and delivering to a gas station, afterwards it loaded oil from an Oil Field and went back to the refinery. Everything was working smoothly.
Case is that a competitor built a station from the refinery to another gas station somewhere else, and my station stopped receiving gas. Is this supposed to happen? Is a factory limited to deliver goods to a single station?

check to make sure your gas station is not full.

If the gas station has more goods than it can consume, it will stop requests for that particular good until the gas is consumed.

Thanks for the answer, but no, It's not full. Just-in-time is disabled, I think that setting is related with that??
Actually, when I deleted the competitor station (changing players) everything went back to normal with my line.

Maybe it's related with pay-for-total-distance set to 1?

How many transfers (station change) your line have and how many the competitor had?

Simutrans uses a shortest path algorithm that chooses the route with less transfers.

Thanks all for the replies!

Ok, I must understand that this is no usual behavior.... maybe a strange tweak in the config setting....

@greenling: "ot"?

Mine was a direct line: (refinery --> gas station "A" --> oil field )
competitor was: (refinery --> gas station "b")
...tried variating the order to ( oil field -> refinery -> gas station)
... tried not stopping at the oil field stop
... tried making it by road, I was using ships in my line.

I also had another line, that kept on working just serving the refinery oil from another oil field -- let's call it oil field "b". So there was no lack of oil to produce new gas.

Maybe it's related with pay-for-total-distance set to 1?

So let's see...

pay_for_total_distance = 1
only affects payment, so there should be no connection between your problem and this setting.

However, there are options capable of causing the kind of problems you describe:

avoid_overcrowding = 1
and
no_routing_over_overcrowded = 1

@DirrrtyDirk: avoid_overcrowding = 0, no_routing_over_overcrowded = 0 --> both are disabled. (THANKS!!)

I saw it happen again in a slightly different matter:
  I had a line: (Oil field "c" --> Oil power).
  Competition built (Oil field --> Refinery "b"), and "my" oil went away to the other station. (both lines are run by ship)

I am uploading my sve, just in case someone is interested: http://www.mediafire.com/?il2jxkev99td7hi

No significant changes were made in the pak128 base files, just citylist_en.txt, set autosave = 1 in simuconf.tab files, and assigned the "<" key to change settings in game in menuconf.tab.

I really like this map/coastline, I've even expanded the map once.

I warn you, I come from OTTD, and this is my first "long" game, so you wont see much concern for economy and maintenance, actually, most long roads and train tracks are owned by "public". I like to think as the state is funding the development of the region  8).

The first line with trouble - is in (62,274) delivering to (242,444), and picking oil from (210,286) it's called (BI 12) ...
The second line I was talking about in this same post is at (21,178) delivering to (30,228) it's called (BI 1) ....
           * B stands for barco (ship) and I stands for Industrial (industry)

If you delete the competition station/lines everything goes back to normal.

TurfIt

The gas station @244,444 serviced by the BI12 line has a multi-year supply in stock. The gas station @117,94 served by the competitor is empty. With JIT off, the refinery distributes the goods in an attempt to maintain all its consumers at the same level of stock. Unfortunately that's creating this rather undesirable situation where a competitors poor service is limiting your delivery rate...

The simple fix here is to turn on JIT. I'm not making any more changes to the factory distribution for JIT off, all I've ever managed is to create more side effects.

Oh! I understand, he he he.
Well, thanks for the answer and time.

In my new games I'm playing with just_in_time on.

Is there an issue solved button apart from the helpful +1 ?

prissi

YOu could also turn on the maximum amount en route. Set maximum_intransit_percentage=500 or so in simuconf.tab. Then not more than 5x of the full capacity will be sent out.
