Electricity does not seem to work right

After connecting a number of cities and having numerous power stations providing electricity, the game seems to struggle to keep tabs on demands here and there or something. Though I am unsure on what exactly causes it--indeed, it might be that there is more than one problem. 

After connecting a few cities with 3 power stations to test, and letting it run for a while:

City A, with a single brewery (not active, do they nowadays demand electricity even when not supplied?), demand of 100MW fallen to 29MW (the demand of the brewery alone). Building a second sub-station changes demand of Substation 1 to 20MW, and Substation 2 80MW, bringing the city again to 100% supply (overall network generation far exceeds max demand).

City B, no industry, demand of 43MW falls to 20MW.

City C, demand of 53MW, falls to 10MW at city substation after a while.

City D, demand of 63MW, falls to 13MW.

City E, demand of 38MW, falls to 26MW.

Thinking this is perhaps an issue with my modified pak which I have yet to update some city buildings to proper -ex; I start a clean 0.8.4 game, and demands seem to work all right for a while. Here, the problem looks different: suddenly the usage of the network reaches 100%, yet nothing is being used by any of the cities or the industries. Clicking city sub-stations, demand shows the same amount as what is totally generated, 6880MW; clicking the network elsewhere reveals odd statistics: a whopping 330,000MW demand, but the electricity is obviously not being used anywhere as there is no longer any income anywhere, and all cities supply has fallen to zero, same for all industry. This problem begins to manifest itself, it seems, at around 3-4 connected power stations, regardless of the number of connected cities. However, occasionally upon a new connection the power demand will reset to what seems to be the actual level, in this case 2,186MW.

I have yet not tested with different power stations than the gas-fired, but things seem to be off, either way.

The electricity should be behaving oddly upon loading.

Thank you for spotting that. I think that I have fixed that in 11.9005.

It appears to work now. However, building power tunnels still causes a crash.

Ahh, thank you for spotting that. It seems that I had only half fixed the problem: it works when building an entire straight tunnel, but crashes with CTRL+click. I have fixed that issue on my Github branch.
