First off let me apologize if this has already been covered and I seem to have missed it.
I'm fairly new to Simutrans and while most thing in the game are fairly intuitive, I just cant seem to get to used nor understand how oil rigs work.
After making several maps trying to get an optimal setup to test how the docks work and how I should place all the buildings, I came across a lake with 3 oil rigs and an oil power plant near water.
Mind you I had to reset the map a least 20 times because it just so happened that the oil rigs that spawned decided not to work.
So, judging from the screen shot I uploaded

Is there an actual difference between one oil rig or another? I just do not understand how one oil rig can produce oil and the other two just decide not to.
Is it a bug?
I'm playing with pack64/windows 7 (64bit)/version 112.3
Thanks in advance to any help or explanation anyone can give.

Every industry in Simutrans has "contracts" with other industries, and will only deliver (or accept) goods to/from those.

So my guessing would be: only one of those 3 oil rigs has a contract to that particular powerplant, the other 2 probably have other customers.

The info-window of each industry will show you their suppliers and their customers.

You can click twice (or double click) on the oil rig to see the list of consumer factories which will accept oil from that oil rig.

I didnt know that, that's a pretty cool feature.
So in theory the two oil rigs that do not supply that oil power plant have to have a supply line connected to the servicing facilities in order to start producing oil, right?

I.e. Oil rig 250,478 Has to have a line that connects it to either of those 6 facilities in order to produce and fill oil tankers, right?

Didn't know about the double clicking thing, thanks for the help, also, I can assume that land oil pumps and similar facilities will work the same way, as in they only supply the facilities they list.
While on that same subject, is it possible to create a contract between two facilities? For example if I wanted to use Oil rig 232,270 to supply my oil power plant because it's closer, is there a way I could achieve that by creating a contract between the two? And if so, how could I do that?

DirrrtyDirk

Yes, you can create contracts via the map editor (accessible through the "public service" player). And yes, all industries are the same: contract-only producers/customers. The only special thing about the oilrig is that they are both industry and "station" in one (that's why you can open two information windows there: one is for the station, the other for the industry).

Also note: Oil rigs no longer will connect to 'land' stations - trains, truck, airplanes. Build one next to the oil rig, and it won't show in the 'Connected Stops:' list.
