Is there any way to determine the map number used to generate a game from a saved game?

I have one game that I developed badly (in terms of map growth) and I want to go back to the original map and start again.

Yes the map number is saved. Load the game and start new game. It should show the number of this map. The random number generator starting number however determines the distribution of cities and the like. This one is not accessible and will be different each time you start a new map, even with the same map number.

Hmm, no joy there.  I loaded the saved game and then went "Start new game" but it stays set to the last used or randomly generated map number, not the one from the saved game.

That's OK. I'm mainly interested in terra-forming for this one. There are no cities that I have a need to reconstruct.

It was just that "perfect coastline"!

Any other ideas? (pliz)

The number is saved with the map, since it is needed for the expansion. Unfourtunately my version of simworld is currently modified, otehrwise I could submit a debug printout of the number easily.

Could you give instructions on how to find the map number?
I can´t read the .sve file in a text editor, and I can´t see the map number in the "regular text window" that comes up with the game.

The second post will tell it exactly this. Load the game and then start a new game. It will show the previous map number in th etext field top left.

Say, the player could type in the chat window "/seed" and it would return the map number... just an idea.

Oops. Should have read it more carefully. Thanks for the quick reply.
