A new version of Simutrans-Experimental is available to-day: Simutrans 112.3 Experimental 11.14. See here for more information on how to download, install and set up the latest version. For those already familiar with the installation and setup, here are some quick links:

Note: Makeobj is updated for this version.

Note that the Windows binaries contain the Windows version of the no-graphics server, Makeobj and Nettool, and the Linux server binary contains the Linux version of Nettool. The Windows version contains both 32-bit and 64-bit binaries: the only discernible advantage of using the 64-bit binaries, however, is that they will allow one to use a game so large that the amount of memory would exceed the limit for 32-bit programmes (circa 2Gb). From version 11.12 onwards, the correct .dll files for 64-bit use have been included in the .zip files, and there is a 64-bit version of the Windows command line server executable.

This is a bug fix release to address some of the issues identified since the release of 11.14. Thanks to all those who have posted bug reports, and to those who have contributed fixes. The last major release was Simutrans-Experimental 11.0, which contained significant enhancements over the previous version.

A full list of changes follows.

Changes since 11.14

  • FIX: Set the default minimum runway length for paksets not compatible with the minimum runway length feature to 10m rather than to 0m, as a length of 0m implies VTOL.
  • FIX: Power stations in cities acted as consumers of electricity as well as producers.
  • FIX: Skip multiple substation distribution code where there is only one substation in a city.
  • CHANGE: Upgrade dr_rdpng.cc to the latest version from standard.
  • CHANGE: Increase the default rolling resistance of tramways and roads according to historical research. Trams now have 4x and road vehicles 10x the rolling resistance of railways by default.
  • FIX: Maximum speed and weight were not displayed in the tooltip for ways with prohibitive way constraints
  • FIX: Crash on reversing in some cases
  • FIX: Errors in calculating routes with long-block signals and, in some cases, choose signals
  • FIX: Crash in some cases relating to tram elevated ways
  • FIX: Crashes after map expansion in some cases.
  • FIX: Passengers and cargo would sometimes go missing when loading
Feedback and testing

Thanks also to all those who have played Simutrans-Experimental and provided feedback, bug reports and the like: it is very much appreciated. Any feedback from this version would, as ever, also be very much appreciated, including (1) the new features introduced in 11.0 (see here); (2) online play (see here for a list of Simutrans-Experimental servers); (3) general bug reports; (4) information as to how well-balanced that the game is; (5) any difference in approach/strategy needed for Simutrans-Experimental as over Simutrans-Standard; (6) any issues specific to the Windows 64-bit version; and (7) any other useful feedback.

I shall bid people good playing, and look forward to any feedback!
