Searching for Youtube videos on Simutrans this evening, I came accross this intriguing channel with a series of presentations about Simutrans to a live audience.

They are all in Japanese, and unfortunately I cannot understand any Japanese, but I was able to run the titles to the videos through an online translator, and it seems that they are all from a conference held in Kyoto in December 2018.

There are a total of 14 videos on a range of topics from Pak.256-Ex to Simutrans music, from traffic congestion theory to an analysis of how people play online games.
The Youtube videos do not have very many views, but it is possible that they were additionally posted to Youtube having been primarily shared on a different video sharing site whose name I cannot recall but which I understand is especially popular in Japan (and has the particular feature of allowing comments to be tied to a particular time in the video, appearing as a sort of live stream of comments, a feature which Youtube lacks except for actual live streams).

I knew that Simutrans is especially popular in Japan (Google search statistics show that Japan is the only country in the world where searches for "Simutrans" outnumber searches for "OpenTTD"), but I had not realised until now that it was popular enough there for there to be an in-person conference with presentations on Simutrans related topics. This is quite intriguing.
Does anyone here know anything more about this? I believe that Phystam of this forum might have been involved in the Pak.256-Ex presentation: he is certainly mentioned, although it is not entirely clear from the video (at least, to somebody who does not understand Japanese) whether he was actually speaking at the conference. There was also a presentation on the OTRP, suggesting that THLeaderH might have been involved, too.
I should be very interested indeed to know more about these presentations, and a brief summary in English of what was discussed in them would be wonderful.

James, thank you for your interest in Japanese simutrans community.

Actually, the videos you noticed were our 4th simutrans conference. The first japan simutrans conference was held in Yokohama in May 2017. The second was in September in Sapporo Hokkaido, the third was in Yokohama again in December 2017, and the forth was in Kyoto in December 2018. The japan simutrans conference is an event in which players present their simutrans knowledge. In the last conference, approximately 25 people attended and 12 people did the presentation.

Unfortunately, the videos of these conferences are not well datanyzed. Although we call this event as "conference", it is not a solemn event as academic symposiums, but a casual gathering event of the Japanese simutrans players ;D
