Timeline enabled mode is a good way to feel the transition of technological advancement.
It also a mode to enjoy the simutrans fully.

To be honest, time goes little too slowly if one want to enjoy the timeline transition without
fastforwarding the game. Can't there be a modifier which make game goes fast in term of date?
It is common to see game played for several months.

If say for example, currently 1 year in game takes 45minutes of play in default speed,
in fast mode, 1year is only 25 minutes.

This way, player can meet the breakthrough more quickly without fastforwarding the game.
From strick game design point of view, I think fastforwarding is more like part of editing tool.

Of course we have move date by 1 year button.
The importance is that player has no direct controil iof it.
Think of it, that button is another game edit tool. What I'm requesting is game mode, not game edit tool.

Thank you for your precious time.

Look for the entry bits_per_month in simuconf.tab:

Quote# Global time multiplier (will be save with new games)
# 2^bits_per_month = duration of a game month in microseconds real time
# default is 18. For example, 21 will make the month 2^3=8 times longer in real time
# production and maintainance cost will be adjusted accordingly.
#
bits_per_month = 20

in pak64 you can change speed with the keys "." and ","
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and maggikraut.

In old simutrans, bits_per_month was 18, and I still think this is the best for timeline game.
But currently, pak64 is 20, 4 times slower, and pak128 is 19, 2 times slower than before.
This was discussed in the old forum before and was chanded.

The speed modifier keys (, and .) are not dependant on the pakset - they work in any pakset. The game can be made subtly faster or slower using those settings.

Ah, I see. I learned again. Thank you for pointing this out.

Im trying bit per month 19 on pakgerman.
Simple notification but player pays maintenance fee twice as fast in 19.
I suppose four times more in 18 compared to 20.
Gives good challenge.

It should be the other way round, isn't it?

colonyan

in 18, date advance 4 times faster than in 20.
date advancing 4times faster means paying monthly maintenance fee 4 times more?

prissi

No, this fee is 4 times lower. Thus payment per time (before the computer) is the same.
