This pack could become the new standard, but balance holds it back.

I'm talking about player_finance_display_account in the display settings. Seems to be on on default, if it's switched off, the bottom of the screen shows net wealth instead. (requires exiting the dialog to take effect)

It can be changed in .tab file for next version.

anyway I did not got permission of modify this pak yet :)

If I can, please say so. I'm going to fix a lot of things. (such as setting default fps to 60)

ps : if it is off with reduction not 100%, user will be cofused after buy vehicles. because vehicle says 1m$, but my asset decreased only 50k$ after bought.

I can't find it :(

Is it possible to just write a value in the simuconf.tab? If yes, what would be the desired value?

It's not in the regular display settings, but in settings=>display settings.

What kind of train are you using for your comparison?
Do you play with or without timeline?
I'm not not sure if the cliff between road and track really is this big - you used a BR 75 to compare with the Renault before, but the  BR 75 is almost 100 years older than the Renault reflecting in the price as well.

I agree with your point. Therefore, I recalculated the coal transport efficiency with two vehicles each in type.

The results still show that vehicles have a higher profit margin than trains, even when using routes. However, the difference is not as significant as to make the game feel unbalanced (less than twice).

Vehicles incur losses when operated in small numbers (<10). However, considering the strong industrial lines in the Comic 192 Pack, I calculated that around 50 vehicles per line is typical useage. (In Excel, you can see how profitability changes based on the line utilization and number of vehicles).

Becuase this pack have way too many type of vehicles, I am considering writing a program for the next comparison. Since not all vehicles having the same efficiency is also part of the fun, I don't think the current balance is bad.

It would be nice if each vehicle had its unique characteristics (like being fuel-efficient but slow, fast but fuel-inefficient, or having a high capacity but being very slow), but there are too many vehicles and options to manage this.

Please let me know if further analysis is needed.

Thank you, the link helps a lot!

Do I understand this right that with more money invested, trains will start to have their break even faster than trucks?

It's a bit nuanced. At the $1 million mark, the profit margin for trucks is slightly higher.

Currently, truck prices are quite low, so with $1 million in capital, you can set up four lines with 100 Renault Magnums each (totaling 400 trucks). However, with that money, you can only set up one or two lines with Vossloh G12 trains (totaling 12 trains). The problem, though, is that 400 trucks on the road would cause significant traffic jam, so a simple comparison is quite difficult. If there is no traff and an infinite number of vehicles can be deployed, trucks wins. I am expecting that users will naturally want to switch from trucks to trains due to traffic congestion.

If users do not use aircraft, starting with $5 million is a huge amount of money. With a 5% of reduction, you can set up lines with 2,000 magum trucks running. :o

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because I like hard gameplay, I modified the nightly pack as follows for my single play, and it is still playable (but I cannot recommend it for multiplayer):

- Reduce factory production to 10%
- Increase the price of high power lines by 100 times (5000$)
- Starting capital of $1 million
- Halve the freight fare (ouch!)
- Set vehicle reduction to 50%

Even with these settings, I could get a little profit by transporting coal with trucks in the 1950s (invested $700k, return $150k/year). If I did not use public roads, it would have been a failed start. But if I succeed in making a round trip, my lines will start printing money.

I've tried to do a MoneyMaking game, and with standard settings it's pretty easy.

Train can be VERY profitable. I've got a 55% margin on train with a light bulb freight transportation by train.

I think the main problem come from factory overproduction...

I can't transport every container from the light bulb factory because of it , and my income is already indecent. Freight can be overwhelmingly profitable if used at full potential...

Flemmbrav

Absolutely agree!
The margin itself is not rxactly my issue here, but the transport volumes are off on some industries and definitely worth a look.
How many container do you think would make sense here (compared to what is now)? A quarter?
