This thread is going to get annoying as I plan to post in here every single day. If this does become annoying, let me know and I can create a sub-forum for it so that it can be ignored more easily. But I feel this is something I need to do....

I must start walking. And the only way to do that is to be held accountable. And the only way to do that is to post it. Every single day.

So, here's the first day:

https://ieh.one/t/first-day/83

Or directly on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igKOliF7yw0

I truly hope the posting is not too annoying, but if it is, let me know. I'll figure something out. If nothing else, I can edit posts and post each new day that way.

prissi

You could also do a discord. There seems more activity there than here. Anyway, keep on walking!

Isaac Eiland-Hall

Second day: https://ieh.one/t/second-day/85

And the problem with a discord is that I can't imagine anyone will find this interesting. I have a hard enough time believing anyone I know will find it interesting, much less strangers. :)

Print out pictures of places all over the world, and put them up at your destination, each day a different one. Then, we can watch you go down the hallway, while you tell us you are in paris or whatever.

Rebrand it as a microtravel-blog that spoofs real fake travel blogs, and it could be interesting just to see where you'll end up next.

...just an idea in case you really want to gather an audience and have some fun with the ordeal.

Good luck!

All my support and best wishes, Isaac!

I don't know if that's appropriate in you case, but have you tried paddling in a stable kayak?

Isaac Eiland-Hall

First, day three: https://youtube.com/shorts/lynNp4-6Pcc

Well, a disclaimer: It didn't record! Bleh! So I recorded a short message instead, but I walked, I promise - same as yesterday.

That's the idea, for sure. And believe me, it is VERY little right now. lol

That is a hilarious idea. I don't know about printing - I don't have access to a working printer. But if I can come up with something interesting to talk about each day, that might actually provide a modicum of value that might be interesting. lol. I'll have to play with this idea, thank you for the inspiration!

Quote from: isidoro on November 05, 2024, 11:47:02 PMhave you tried paddling in a stable kayak?

That is an interesting idea. lol. I don't have easy access to any equipment, but I think walking is the best exercise since what I'm training up for is... walking. So I'm doing what I want to train to do. hehe. That said, there may be some advantage to doing some other exercises. I have a dumbbell I need to use to strengthen my arms - I noticed that not only are my legs hurting, but my arms do, too!

But at the moment - back to the kayak - getting into water is a right pain for me at the moment. My mobility is extremely limiting. But maybe one day. :)

Although honestly, I'd like to ride a bike again - that would be my exercise target. I used to ride everywhere when I was a kid and teen. :)

Use the magic of video editing, just slap an image at the end. Bonus points of you cut out exactly one picture of yourself (badly, with straight edges) and slap it on your destinations.

Maybe even post one good picture of yourself here for others to print out and bring to various locations for photos. Given this is an international forum, I suppose you can become Mr. Worldwide in no time while having a meaningful interaction with people, and they can provide all the information you need to talk about the location first hand.

I think there is potential. Not to become a star influencer, but for a small community that actually enjoys your videos, with minimal extra effort (since you already plan to walk and post a daily video anyway, which is the hard part)

You have some great ideas, and I'm going to continue to ponder what things to do along those lines, thank you! I may do something like that as a weekly feature, perhaps. And yes, it would be awesome to develop a very small community for such things. Not a large one. But yep, having something interesting is a good idea.

Definitely weekly, at least to start, though! So now I'll have to figure out what day of the week. Oh, it should be Sunday since I'm off from work and dialysis on Sundays. So...... I have a few days to plan now :)

Both cycling and kayaking have the advantage of being in direct contact with nature.  With little force, you can slide a kayak and it's a very nice sensation and it's quite easy to improve.  There are adaptations to ride a bike so if you really want it, you'll get it.  I'm now studying all that and got surprised to know all the possibilities.

All my support from the distance!

Did Isaac have his leg amputated because if he walked slowly something could happen and I asked if Isaac had a prosthesis and noticed when he was seriously ill?  :-[  :warning:

Day 7 - first week down! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff97C-MMdNo&ab_channel=IsaacEiland-Hall

Day 6 made it to Most Viral on Imgur. Crazy stuff. Then again, there's a guy who posts a bowl of porridge every single day (at least, as of last check), so I guess my fellow Imgurians are easily amused. lol

At Pascallok — I'm afraid I'm a bit confused, but I did in fact have an amputation a couple of years ago and just haven't been able to walk again since, thanks to a number of medical issues. But finally to the point of being able to try. :)

I don't know if you can speak Spanish, but we watched this video at my class and it was very inspirational for me.  I hope it be for you.  :)

Nice! No hablo for the most part, but with the auto-translated captions I can hear a lot more words and understand as they're saying them. lol. But while the autotranslation was hilarious at times, enough meaning came through.

Pretty sweet!

Not for me - once I'm walking with just a cane, I'll move on to bicycle riding - at least, I'll try. Getting up and down is hard, so something like that would be a very long time away. Maybe one day, though :) And it's awesome to see them doing that - and normalizing is so critically important!

Thank you both for the kind words. :) I've missed some days, but this is working well. And the responsibility I feel for posting it every day GREATLY helps - I would absolutely have stopped again were I not feeling the pressure to post. Pressure which I put on me. But it's working. lol. ADHD is stupid.

Not sure that's a trade I would make, but it IS a nice shirt.

I suppose since it is full-remote anyway, job suggestions could come from all over the world? Do you speak any other languages than English?
What kind of odd jobs could you do? As in: What kind of problem would I need to have so I could hire you to fix it for me?

Isaac Eiland-Hall

Yeah, not a great trade, but I didn't have much of a choice, either. hehe

I've actually written up a start of explaining the type of thing I'd be prime for. Alas, only English.

Day 30: Still unemployed, got a cane! (can't walk with it yet), developed a game! (it's playable but lots of bugs I'm working through)

Information about the game is in any of the following links, I hope you'll check it out - desktop browser for now: http://ieh.im/

How is it going? Feels like quite a few windows of this advent calender remain unopened, everything okay?

Isaac Eiland-Hall

I didn't want to "spam" updates until I had an update, but basically I developed blisters on the "good" leg and it's been painful. Getting close to being able to walk again, but yeah, it's been a frustrating few days or basically couple of weeks. meh.

Did you consider writing your conclusion on ADHD down in to your note book, your wife gave you? I like that 'quote' quite a lot:

Day 3 - three laps - https://imgur.com/a/8yre7aI

I stopped with the notebook because I had only started it because I thought I might need some sort of hook to keep people interested enough to keep me walking, but it's not necessary. I would imagine (I would hope) nobody bothers to watch the whole thing. I would imagine it's more that the fact that I post is enough. lol.

I greatly appreciate the accountability. It helps a lot.

It totally is a loop.. lol
At first, it puzzled my mind how this guy made it back to the front door in no time
I rewinded the video, just to notice, it had simply restartet :DDDD

I guess, you unlocked the cheat code for endless laps ;-)

Isaac Eiland-Hall

It's almost a loop today! This time on purpose. But a minute wasn't quite enough to make it a true loop. But close! lol

Hi Isaac  :)
I missed your upload ;) and am glad to hear you're feeling well or secure enough, to reset the boundaries.
Though, please take your pace 👍

Isaac Eiland-Hall

FLN

Awesome Isaac!
I whish you, you can keep up your wonderful motivation 🙂
And I'm happy to see you turning your hallway in to a actual run-way 😄
Please take care of possible sores, so they won't jeopardize your cycles 🙂

Isaac Eiland-Hall

FLN

Hi Isaac,

you did perfectly well! 💪

On my humble opinion, getting out and up and doing any walking at all, is the achievement, not so much the eventual distance walked.
(Though it's so nice to meanwhile watch you nearly run through the hallway 😄)

I feel sorry, you having to go through all that pain. Through the dialysis. Through constraining your liquid intake and your finally regained appetite.
But.
But I admire your lion's heart. I admire you, going on. I admire you, taking on the everyday battle...
Cause honestly, I'm quite not sure if I could do the same, walking in your "shoes" some day.

So. I admire your strength, Isaac.

Finally. Please let me quote here your really fine, concluding phrase from 'imgur' yesterday:

Quote from: Isaac Eiland-HallEvery **** day is hard. But I only get to live today, not yesterday, not tomorrow. So I'm doing my best today. :)

You nearly walked through it 😄

Ooooo...  :o
A cat picture on your imgur-post  8) lovin' it

It's so nice to see you walk so much more effortless then just a while ago...
Though, please give yourself the rest you need. You're a hard worker 😌

Isaac Eiland-Hall

FLN

Man Isaac... even on the last lap you had quite an impressive pace!
Even more so, if considering this was your 5th set plus a new record-braking overall distance walked
👍👍💪💪
Tell us, Isaac, how do you feel these days?

Isaac Eiland-Hall

FLN

Very well done 💪
I looove the new anime style slide  :)

Clearly, you can't build the magazine in that spot :P

Thank you, Isaac, for sharing the footage of this historic event and the Wikipedia link, leading to further information.
I read the article with great interesst and learned more about the spirit in the colonies, between the Bosten tea party and the eventual rebellion. Really insightful :)

And most important of all, you did a great effort today, getting to the magazine!
I guess this counts as several sets of multiple walks  ;)
