Hi everybody

I did not find this topic in the forum, so I guess it hasn't been formally asked for.

Mi request concerns the behavior of the sliced-underground-view, being left, when clicking on the minimap to navigate.

When working on subways or high speed underground networks it would be useful, of being able to use the minimap, to change location. Though the view then usually switches to standard view, wich is quite annoying.

I hoped that it would be a small thing, to let clicking the minimap, leave the view as is, and on the same terrain level too.

Thank you for your feedback  :)

This was deliberatly so, that when for instance is a traffic jam underground, it displays the underground and when you jump to an invisible tile at the current setting, that tile is made visible. But I can see why you do not want this for the minimap.

r11635 do not tough the mode. This means, of course, than large areas of the minimap may be black.

Toughing the mode? Sorry, I need explanation, I don't understand..

Thank you anyways for addressing this feature

It mean I leave the mode as it was. But in sliced underground mode, the minimap also shows black on the invisible grounds.

Hi prissi,

and thank you again for having considered my issue  :)

Playing online, I meanwhile witnessed reactions of some co-players, being confused by this new behavior and complaining about needing to browse the menu, in order to leave underground mode. Which they can themselves suddenly find in, when clicking on the "locate" feature of a station's window (the eye), that may have underground levels too, for instance.
Too I realized, not everybody is familiar with the hotkey shortcuts concerning underground, so many rely on the control buttons to navigate underground-mode and thus to leave it as well.

Since I induced this change, I tried to think of a solution for this predicament and would like to propose to modify clicking the minimap as fallows:
Essentially to get back to how it was before r11635.
  • When left-clicking the minimap, in visible areas to leave sliced view and when clicking in invisible areas to stay in sliced view.
  • The twist now would be, that when right-clicking the minimap, on however a visible or invisible area, to stay in sliced view anyway.

As far as I'm aware, right-mouse-click is used by some folks specifically to move the minimap's shown main-map section. I therefore would differentiate the right-click action by if it's clicked, held, the cursor moved around, and then released, and between if it's only clicked and the cursor gets not moved at all.
Former action would just move the map segment in the minimap and the lather action could address my original request, of centering the view on the minimap on a new location, regardless of if it's visible or not.

I think this could be a valid solution of not annoying players who where accidentally "thrown" in sliced view, and still keeping the stay-in-sliced-view feature for dedicated tunnel-digging-moles 🐹 as me  :) :)

What do you think of this? Is this approach even possible? Are there other things to be considered?

In case, this "hidden" right-click feature is doable, I would volunteer to include it to the minimap's and undergrounf-tools's help text and do some translations (de,sp,fr,it though not to jp), to not keep it secret, so to say.

prissi

Rightclick pans the minimap so one does not have to use the scrollbar on larger maps.

So what do you propose exactly for the new right-click? I am confused.

FLN

Sorry for the confusion.

The propositions is, to use right click to stay in sliced-view mode, instead of left click.
And to have left click to return to it's former behavior.
