[EN] Hello, and welcome to any of you who are new to this forum! And welcome to existing forum members, too. :)

This topic is intended to update you on the progress of getting things set up, as well as to discuss how the boards in this category should be run.

On the International Forum, the general rule for language is that all boards except "Language" boards are English-primary, meaning you can post in any language, but must provide an English translation that is posted first. This comment I am writing now is set up this way, with "[EN]" tags denoting the two letter language code for the language. I'll translate this into Japanese and post it under the [JP] label below. English first because all boards except language boards are.

Language boards may post in that language with no translation, and if a translation is provided, that board's language must go first.

So one question is: With much of the OTRP community seemingly speaking Japanese, how should the rules apply here?

1. Japanese primary - treat this category of boards as a Japanese-language board, meaning no English or other languages are mandatory, but if they are included, Japanese should be at the top and other languages underneath.
2. Japanese/English mix. Comments/posts may be made in either language with no translation to the other being required (however, it would be nice for posters to include JP/EN both when they can, in whatever order desired). Any other languages must be tagged and appear below EN/JP.
3. English primary - I assume this wold not be desired, and that's fine, but it is technically an option, so I'm listing it

I am personally fine with option 1 or 2, no worries. Either way, it would be kind to include EN where possible, I think, but I'm perfectly fine with this being a Japanese language category.

So, your opinions are desired.

And for the purpose of this topic, there is no enforced language rule regarding tagging or required language to use, we can all translate if needed. But it is encouraged to provide a translation if you are able, to save everyone time. :)

A quick follow up comment with some basic focum rules, amd at least one exception to the rules. :)

If the second option is chosen, we can post like this - I'm writing in English then will translate to Japanese, but I'll put Japanese first to show that either order would be acceptable. I won't use the [EN] or [JP] tags to show what that lack would look like. (But again, if the second option is chosen, anyone may post in only English or only Japanese, no problem).

The main forum rule, which I'm not sure will translate well, boils down to "Do not be an asshat". A safer way to say that is "Be kind to everyone". I think it's pretty common and should be common sense.

Beyond that, the only rule that might be mildly surprising would be about doubleposting, which is where someone has the last comment in the thread and wants to make another comment in the thread.

1. If you are the last person to comment in a thread and it has been less than 24 hours, please do not post a new comment; rather, edit your comment to add what you wish
2. If you are the last person to comment in a thread and it has been more than 24 hours (approximately), you may choose to make a new comment replying to your last comment
3. The main exception: Use common sense please. One example where a new comment would be acceptable is if the last comment is taller than the profile information. Because basically this rule is intended to stop the wasted space of many short comments by the same person being way taller than needed, and to discourage "bumping" of topics, which is otherwise not explicitly against the rules, although generally discouraged (but allowed when felt necessary)

In my opinion, this OTRP forum's language should be mix of English and Japanese (option 2.)

The main objectives of the OTRP section in international forum are
  • to promote OTRPs activities to users outside Japan,
  • to exchange insights and technical knowledge with Standard and Extended.
So, comments in English is important.

However, not only Japanese users but also OTRP developers and some contributers are non-native English speakers. So, Comments in Japanese should also be welcome.

Fortunately, thanks to advances in AI, machine translation has become much easier these days!

[EN]
That sounds good to me, and this will be the rule unless others come in and wish to discuss the matter again. Tags will not be required but I will suggest that for users using AI to translate, if they have a pinned chat with AI, they can instruct it to prepend the tags automatically, which is what I am doing.

I will post Japanese first as my native language is English. Others may choose to do as they feel is important. (My comments will likely be talking more to those on the Japanese side of things, so those that might be addressing the International community might put English first. Or whatever they like)
