Hello. I recently downloaded the newest simutrans after having an older copy on my system for quite a while. I've always had quite a bit of trouble trying to get it going and make money.

I'm wondering if there are any tutorials out there. Things that explain what you should connect first, and how. Is it better to go for a Rail network or a Road one. What's a good year to start in for a newbie. What chains are too long to connect at the start. Which chains are recommended to start with. How much industry should you pick on your map, as well as number and size of cities. Do you make the most money at first by moving goods or people? Do you make more money by moving people between cities or within them?

So on and so forth. I've never been able to get past a single year because I try all of these things to try to make a profit. If anyone has any tips that'd be great. Thanks.

Bye :)

Hum, thank you. I have not seen all of the second page, and none of the first.

Is the wiki a public-edit kind of thing? When I find the answers to all of my questions I could put them in there so that others who are as lost as I can find easy answers.

Well, the wiki is not completly public, you have to request an account. As far as I know that's due to some problems the wiki had in the past, manily spam attacks. Anyway I think would be better to put all these ideas here, maybe in this topic or in another new one, discuss them and then move them to the wiki if we consider they are good enough for helping newbies.

Right now, I'm lost still. For one, I dont know how to operate rail signals.

Please, post a topic per issue.

We had started with a "tutorial issue", now you are asking about rail signals. Then, I had to split your post about "info on rail signals" off from here and can be found at http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=276.msg5320#msg5320.

Hum. Okay, I thought we were going with vilvoh's idea "to put all these ideas here". I'm happy either way.

I find the explanations on how to use simutrans to be very confusing. Partly because of a learning disability. I've been told I can explain things very simply sometimes, so once I'm able to understand it, I'll be able to explain it in a way that I (and maybe some others who are lost) can understand.

I've posted three new topics with some of the questions I have. I'm going to try to keep my number of "open" topics limited, but I really would like to write some kind of helpful tutorial that can either stand on it's own, or be added to the existing sites.

We appreciate your interest on writing stuff for Simutrans so, of course you can write anything you want and then send the files to Ormac, the Simutrans Reference Material Manager, or to me and we'll see what can we do (a short newbies guide, quick reference tutorial, you know, things like those)
