After the next stable, hopefully still in January, weight limits will come; albeit in a little different way from experimental, i.e. always using the maximum load and calculating an axle load.

The other thing from experimental that will come are monthly maintenance for vehicles (so it also costs some money for having them standing around instead of waiting).

A certain percentage of the running costs will go back to track owner. That way it will be cheaper to operate on own ways. At the same time gaming as infrastructure company might become feasible.

Should be quite sensible to take over the weight limit version from standard. Using the fully loaded weight from the beginning is good, easier to treat and prevents some nasty surprises for users with convoys becoming stuck for no apparent reason in the middle of their route.

I looked into axle load for road vehicles a bit further, and it turns out there is such a thing. However, it is more common to use gross weight of the vehicle, because it's rare that a truck will exceed axle load when it was designed for heavy loads in the first place.

that is exactly why this way of doing it was discussed for standard as the goal was to find a system that allows preventing a heavy train from taking the tram tracks or an oceanliner from going up the river but not a truck from using the cobblestone road ;)
