Hello.

I'm a new old player (confusing statement? - I've been playing a really old version up until a few days ago).

Any way, is it me or are maintainance costs really high?

I've worked out how to cut down the costs of buildings (stations, etc.) with the 'settings' tool. But:

* How do i change the maintainance values for track (roads, canals, etc.)

* alternatively, am I just approaching the problem totally wrong? Are the tactics of old versions simply not applicable?

I;ve encountered the 'public service' system, so is that the way to do it?

Paul

PS I'm having BIG problems running any system that isn't almost entirely ship based as the maint is killing me.

If you go into the Config Folder and open the simuconf.tab you can change a lot of values. This can be found in the Simutrans Folder and also in the Config Folder under the PAK Files

Else way to keep maintenance down is using addons (but you did not write what pakset you use - else I could suggest some ones) and else way of building of transportation webs. Try to re-use built tracks (water canals, railways, roads) - it is very useful in the beginning of game.
