Locking up when trying to expand map

hey guys, long time so see!
i have a problem with my game when i try to expand the map, the game freezes and stops responding

im using windows 7 64bit with 4gb ddr3 ram and 1gb nvidia graphics, is there any known fix for this?

It may depend on your settings how long the expansion will take place. Otherwise please give a link to the savegame and the parameters you used for expansion, as this may be as well an error.

i think i figured it out, i paused the game before expansion and it worked, hey might be on to something.
