simutrans wont run? please help

im runnig windows 7 64 bit and cannot get simutrans to work
i read the guide on how to install simutrans and this is what i did:
-downloaded binary and pak64
-made folder "simutrans" on desktop
-extracted them both and merged the folders
-tried to run simutrans.exe
-simutrans stops working
-end now

please help me

so far your list looks like you did no obvious error.

Some questions:
-- directory structure should be something like

simutrans/sim.exe
simutrans/pak/
simutrans/lots of other files...

-- where did you obtain simutrans?

-- in which sense does simutrans stop working? error message? screenshot?
