Hi

I just installed Simutrans Experimental (Windows) with pak128 and now I have couple of questions (I don't know anything about computers, so some questions can be silly):

When I tried to start the program, it didn't start. The program didn't find any text file so I copied the text folder from Simutrans 111. The program didn't start. It didn't complain anything. So I copied all the folders (config, font, music, skin) from Simutrans 111 and now it works fine.
Are all these folders necessary? Are there available these folders made for Simutrans Experimental?

There are now 3 exe files in my Simutrans folder (Simutrans-Experimental.exe, Simutrans-Experimental-ipv4.exe and Simutrans-Experimental-command-line-server.exe)
Is there any difference between Simutrans-Experimental.exe and Simutrans-Experimental-ipv4.exe? They seem to work equal. If there is a difference, which one do you recommend?
What is Simutrans-Experimental-command-line-server.exe? It doesn't do anything if I click it.

Comparing to v.111 all the cities seem to be huge (area) (average city size 5000) and I couldn't even fit all the cities in the map  :o when I used same settings as with v.111.
I want to use 512*512 map and I'll concentrate on passengers.
What kind of settings would you recommend?
Number of cities, number of big cities, city clusters, average city size, tourist attractions, industry chains...

A quick solution for you would be to get the Complete Package, as described here. Unpack it to a new, empty folder and you're ready to go.

If you want to run Experimental with Pak128, you can download Pak128 separately and place it inside the folder of the extracted Complete Package. Then you'll be presented with a window to choose between Pak128/Pak128.Britain-Ex when you start the game.

The "-ipv4.exe" version is only there for people who have trouble with the IPv6 protocol on their system as far as I know, should make no difference in most cases. The "-command-line-server.exe" is for running an online (multiplayer) server locally.

As for settings, the config files for Experimental work a little differently and they might have to be adjusted to the Pakset you're playing with. If you're fine with Pak128.Britain-Ex, you can use the Complete Package out of the box since the config settings are adjusted for that already, albeit not perfectly balanced yet.

The parameters for the different map objects are up to personal taste of course, but I personally can go with the ratio set by default, i.e. 256x256 map -> 16 cities, 1 big city, 4 industry chains, 16 tourist attractions. So far a 512x512 map, I'd multiply those by 4. Personally, I reduce the number of big cities though since I find it a little too unchallenging if there are too many.

Zaharra,

welcome to the forums! I recommend the complete package too, as the pakset included in it has been configured to make use of all of the specialist features of Experimental: Pak128 is a pakset configured only for Standard, and, whilst it will work with Experimental, will not take full advantage of its features.

There are also other paksets, such as Pak.64-Experimental, that are configured to work specifically with Experimental.
Download Simutrans-Extended.
