I was building in sandbox mode and came across airports. I wanted to build one and see how they work. I looked up some kind of tutorial how to do it. But I saw that my year (1972) didn't have all the buildings that I needed. I looked up a similar tutorial to what I needed (change year) and saw a post on this forum. That said that you can add years to the game? How do I do that? (I don't find Airstops) And the most important, I dont want to lose progress...

Is there really any way?

Most paksets feature a "skip year"-button in the editor, which is only available to the public player (pretty much a cheat menu/creative mode).

First, switch to the public player. You can do that with Shift+P or via Options->Players. You can see which player you are in the bottom middle.
Now, you should have a new button in the main menu, usually looking like earth or a map. If you can't find it in the menu, check the "Special Tools" submenu. Open it.
This Editor toolbar is different for each pakset, but it usually contains buttons to create citys, citybuildings, factories, expand the map and a button to skip a year.
Don't forget to switch back to your normal player.

Carful: You cannot go back in time, only forward!

(and this has nothing to do with save-game settings)

It seems very strange that you can't build airports in 1972. Air travel was well established in the real world by then. Which pak set is this?

emirkir

It's pak128 (2.6) I'm using. Correct me if I didn't spell it right...

I switched like twenty years in the future and I'm now in 1990's. Now there's a bunch of new items. Like those buildings you board planes on that I didn't find in 1972.
So what exactly do I need to build an airport?

Thanks Leartin, I found the "cheat-menu".

Btw. I looked up this picture of an airport I wanted to make, but I can't find those middle-buildings. Not even in 1990's. (Those six buildings that connect boarding with airplanes, connected to six taxiways.)
When I try to put a new building down it says I need to have like a bus stop or train station there.

A functional Airport in Simutrans consists of 3 required elements:

1) Runway - the straight piece of asphalt planes start on land on. 3 tiles are technically enough.
2) Taxiway - the asphalt planes roll around on. If you are not sure wether something is a runway or taxiway, try building a curve - runways can only be straight.
3) Stop- the parking spot for the plane, placed on the end of a taxiway.

The plane will start at the stop, follow the taxiway to the nearest runway and lift off there, then go straight to the runway connected to the destination stop. The stops can be connected to train or bus stops simply by building them next to each other.

Buildings are not required, but they increase the amount of pax, mail or good that can be stored in the airport. They can't be buildt on their own, only next to a stop.

If you can't find a specific building in a pakset, chances are they are addons.

Ok. I'll try. Should I leave this thread open if I need more help with this?

Only moderators can close threads, so you'll have to leave it open in case you or somebody else has further questions  regarding construction of airports, or wants to expand my explaination.

In pak128 you can build airports early, there is everything you need (runways, taxiways, stops as pointed out by Leartin), but you will have only very light planes which cannot support a decent flow of passengers or goods. Good planes appear around the 70s.

Runways, taxiways and the stops that you build at an end of a taxiway are enough to build a basic airport, you can also use one way signs for taxiways to build more complicated and efficient layouts, and use airport halls and gates (or any other station extension building) to make it look nicer and more realistic.

If you have not already tried it: I wrote a short tutorial about building airports.
