Using Pak128.japan.
The station has 7 platforms putting next to each other on the ground.. And yet, trains keep waiting outside because only one train get out or get in of the station. (1B)

Stations are most efficient when trains pass through them and don't have to turn around. For best throughput, all kinds of crossing paths should be avoided.
Problems arise. The station is a switchback with no space around -_-
Depending on pak and waytype, you could either stuck stations using elevated ways or tunnel.
Minimizing crossing paths are still something to avoid. By crossing paths I also mean the distance trains have to travel back in the opposite direction on the same track. So having platforms longer than the train is a drawback.
