Game 3 will soon be uploaded to Timothy's moblet game server at moblet.simutrans.entropy.me.uk:13357

Freight zones are bordered by white lines, passenger zones are bordered by green lines.

Game 3 will use the same map, territories and rules as game 2 but with the following changes:
- City population growth rates are reduced to 20% of the default value.
- City cars have been turned off to reduce problems of vehicle queues. Players will not need to build extra road length to allow for city cars in queues (but will still need to make sure that vehicle queues do not obstruct other players).
- Cowserslautern's passengers and mail belong to the south passenger zone, not the east zone as shown in the map.

This game will end when the map becomes too full for any active player to join.

Each player in this game chooses either goods or pax/mail, and a territory, and has exclusive rights to serve that task in that territory. You can also choose from the available player colours. To join this game, post your task/territory/colour preference here and you will be sent a password. Players who previously nominated to join game 3 please re-confirm your choices:

Vonjo: north pax, yellow
jjatca: any freight, any colour
Frost: any freight, blue

This game runs r4359 (110.0.1 stable) with openpak128 nightly, same as for game #2 and also as used on server 128.simutrans.entropy.me.uk.

The pak can be downloaded here: http://entropy.me.uk/simutrans/simupakopen128-1150.zip

This server is accessible via both IPv4 and IPv6.

I'd like to join as East pax, if available, otherwise as any other pax player.

Game 3 is up and passwords have been sent to our first players. Currently the game isn't appearing in the server list but its address can be typed or pasted into the Add server window.

jjatca, your inbox is full so I couldn't send you yours. Let me know when you have room for another message.

When updating your player name please include something like "W pax" or "E goods" in it so other players can easily know who is doing what.

Ashley

The server list is probably broken, soon we'll have a new listings server which should work much better :)

Thanks for setting this one up. I'd like any territory, freight. PM me my player password please :)

Done.

mwoodburn81, did you go bankrupt? I can assign you another player if you want to try again.

I noticed that cities are not growing, even if passengers are transported in/out.
The only city in my territory that is growing (really slowly) is the biggest city (36000 inhabitants).
I've read that city growth tax has been lowered, but this non-growing attitude is really strange, I didn't notice this even in the previos game (moblet #2), nor obviously in other games online/offline games.

moblet

We are still experimenting with growth rates, and are open to changing it for future games. The growth rate on this map is 20% of the default value. The intent here is to let the game play out a little more slowly so that people with limited time can play it effectively. Players with too much time on their hands can always build multiple networks on multiple servers.

Growth is maximised by serving as much of the travel demand as possible. If you want fast growth on this map you will have to work for it. Some of your stops are overcrowded and losing most of their passengers; consider improving the service. Also, serving freight demand contributes to city growth, which isn't happening for you because no one is serving freight in your zone; I haven't started playing this map myself yet (blame real life) so if no one takes on this task very soon I will do it and that will help increase growth for you.

Larger cities will experience larger increases in population than smaller ones.

Also, I just looked closely at the map and realised that Coal Creek's passengers are drawn in the north zone. Because of the topography it makes much more sense for Coal Creek to be in the east passenger zone, so yorkeiser, Coal Creek is yours if you want it.

Well, I currently have nothing to do :(
There are only a few power plants and refineries-gas stations that I could use, which are all connected to my network now. There are no other factories in the North area, so I can't connect to anything. A west-freight company would help the most (because some factories there rely on North-based supplies) :|

Since we have vacant slots I have no problem with you expanding into another zone, which could be split between jjatca and yourself if jjatca also wants more to do (we can make a new boundary). Tell me whether you will expand east or west and I will take the other zone.

moblet

jjatca, your inbox is full so I've had to put this message here:

I have started a public freight interchange just north of Chickchester (725,332) for transferring goods between our territories.

I have lines in place to take gasoline there for the gas stations at 476,349 and 689,368. Please set up lines of your own to take gasoline from the interchange to these destinations. Currently I have only two trucks on my lines, which will not run until you start your trucks. Just put one truck on each line at first, after you have started your trucks I will add more trucks and then you can add more.

mwoodburn81

yorkeiser - I Have made a station near the Chickchester exit public.   Fox Pax exchange.

--

moblet - Can you give this public station a better name?  Such as "Chickchester Union Station"

Thanks

any pax any color, Thanks
Sorry, no pax places are left, only goods. If you are willing to do goods you can either take the east (I have started there but have not built much) or we can work out with chor how to fit you into the west.

You could start connecting all factories I haven't connected yet in the west, and once you've finished I'll remove my network in the west and allow you to replace it.

EDIT: Sorry, first time playing multiplayer. Made the station at 117/252 public and would like to invite south pax to connect to it.

It's ok. this is my first time playing multiplayer myself.  I can't connect now, but will more than likely do so after work, approx 12 hours from now.  Ugh, an other long shift.

Nice see you connected it.

Could you however increase your service to that station? There's currently 10000 people waiting there (and another ~10000 at Glassgow&Knittern waiting for trains to Hammsterdam), I suggest you either add more trains or upgrade your tracks so the trains can run at their max speed. Thanks

Vonjo

I'm sorry I haven't joined for some reason.
I hope I can join as late as this weekend.

I was going increase  service earlier,  However I was experience a lot of lag, and felt it was to risky to do the required track upgrades at that time.  I got double high speed tracks now.  And added a few more trains.  Will be adding more as time goes on.

Added an airport to 117/252 now (could an admin please rename it to "Hamsterdam International Airport"?) in case Pax East wants to connect to my network. I increased service on my Blue Line (Hamsterdam - Glassgow & Knittern), but plan to increase it further and probably add a direct line from Hamsterdam to Hajopolis should demand continue to rise.

EDIT: Reduced the Blue Line service frequency again, since there's just not enough demand right now. The trains are waiting in the depot though so I can re-activate them easily

Have you tried increasing the value of additional_client_frames_behind in your simconf file? 4 or 8 are suggested values. Linux users can experience very bad lag with depot and schedule controls regardless.

That seamed to help.  It makes it playable most of the time.

What's up with the second 'west passenger' player in the playerlist?

Also where's north pax? Don't see any passenger lines in that quarter...

And for East Pax: I suggest you build an airport near Mascow and schedule flights to Hamsterdam International Airport so we can connect the 3 existing passenger networks.

Getting a bit too rich and have nothing to spend my money on :(

yorkeiser

Hi, I'm east pax.
I'm sorry but I hadn't time to connect this days, however I have to redesign all the network adding trains. When done, I'll make some public stops, now it's not useful.

Cheers

The yellow player is north pax, aka Vonjo, who might have got confused when naming his player. He apologised earlier in the thread for his delay in joining the game.

It happens. Not unusual in these games to be rolling in money once you have a basic network running.

jjatca, since your inbox is still full, please read:
I have lines in place to deliver meat and steel to Chickchester Freight Interchange for delivery to Cowserslautern Meat Packing Plant (489,355), so please set up lines in your territory. I am using truck depot 725,333 at the interchange, the others are available to you. Let me know if and when you'd like a railyard built there for you, either underground on level -1, or on level 0.

My apologize for being impatient.

So Vonjo: If you want a little help getting started, I could build a high-speed rail link from Hajopolis to Hangshai and/or from Hamsterdam to Chromium, with your permission of course. I'd build the station just before the city limits and you can connect from there to the city. That should make your initial network a lot more profitable and help you get off the ground. Alternatively I could build a public airport near one of your cities for you to schedule flights to Hamsterdam (or you can do so yourself, although that might be a bit tough on your finances in the beginning).
Or I could open a public station near Hajopolis for you to connect to. Just gimme a shout what you would prefer most.

What? I name myself west pax??? :o I'm sorry, I must be confused with the previous game. ;D

Sorry I'm quite busy at the moment. As I said, I will play as late as this weekend.

Ojii, thanks for your offering. I think I will go to the west public airport first (is it yours?).
I'm going to bankrupt myself to get more money. So if my slot is empty, keep it empty until I activate it myself. It doesn't break the rules, right?

Never thought about it in making the rules, but I think your plan is a good one. It's better for the other pax players if you start with more money so you can connect to them faster.

jjatca: Please supply corn from 682,414 to Chickchester Freight Interchange. I have a train ready and waiting so product will move immediately. (If you can clear your inbox a little I can send these by PM.)

Can happen with the default Windows version. Try the SDL version when this happens.

moblet

I don't know, but I just logged in now without a problem.

ojii

haha someone accidentally blocked my ring line in hajopolis, result:

those poor people waiting for their train :D

choro

Ah, that's nothing. In game #2 my main train line (pax) got stuck for one night, leaving 3,000,000 at Chickchester waiting for their train.
The huge queue didn't end until I increased the size of my trains days later...

Ashley

I'd like to move this game onto the new Simutrans stable version (111.0) since this version has a number of nice fixes compared to the older version and the old listings server will vanish soon. I can try to do this in such a way as to preserve the existing map or we could start a new fresh map at the same time.

Would you also be happy to move to a more recently nightly release of pak128? It's up to r582 of the open branch, though this is much less of an issue ongoing.

moblet

That's all fine with me Timothy. This game isn't appearing on the listings server anyway.

Personally I'd be aiming to keep the existing game going if that's easy enough to do but am happy to put it to a vote. If keeping the old game is a lot of work for you, Timothy, don't bother trying to preserve it.

If we start a new game the growth parameters can be changed, opinions on growth rates welcome.

jjatca

I would have to agree with moblet on this subject.

choro

Agreed too. 111.0 seems to have many excellent new features, so I'd prefer playing in it, even if it means the game has to be restarted.
