Title: [New release] Simutrans-Experimental 5.0
Post by: jamespetts on July 12, 2009, 03:15:51 PM
A new version of Simutrans-Experimental has been released to-day, version 5.0. See here (http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=1894.0) for more information on how to get Simutrans-Experimental. The Windows version can be downloaded here (http://simutrans-germany.com/files/upload/simutrans-experimental.zip). The Linux version is expected to be available from the morning of the 13th of July 2009: see here (http://www.43-1.org/~simutrans/simutrans-exp/) for the download page. This version comes with new configuration files (including a new Japanese translation), which are available here (http://simutrans-germany.com/files/upload/simutrans-experimental-config.zip).

Version 5.0 incorporates all the latest improvements from the trunk (including the fix to the bug relating to the sorting of passengers/goods in convoy windows and a number of further fixes to the underground slopes), as well as a number of bugfixes and enhancements specific to Simutrans-Experimental. The major version number has been incremented because: (1) there are a number of significant changes, including new features, compared to the previous version, 4.6, and (2) a number of those changes require additional data to be saved with saved games, making games saved with Simutrans-Experimental 5.0 incompatible with earlier versions of Simutrans-Experimental.

Changes

Feedback and testing

As ever, any feedback on this new version would be very much welcome. Early indications show that Knightly's new pathing system is very much faster than the previous Simutrans-Experimental pathing system, whilst retaining all the functionality of the previous system. I should be very grateful for any further feedback or testing as to the performance of the new pathing system in particular. In the usual way, general feedback is also very much welcomed, including bug reports, and feedback as to how the new features of Simutrans-Experimental work out, how gameplay is affected, and whether the game is well balanced.

Thank you to all those who have provided feedback on previous versions: many of the changes implemented in this version are as a result of feedback from people posting on these boards. Enjoy playing!
