Title: New release
Post by: prissi on October 22, 2011, 08:48:44 PM
Since standard is planning for a new release, and the last pak britain release is over a year now, would it be possible to make a current release uncluding all changes and corrects done since 1.08?

A new release of pak128.Britain is long overdue I admit.  I've been holding out to finish doing snow images for the whole pak, which is very nearly done now, but unfortunately I have got very busy at work in the last month or so and I don't see that changing any time in the next 6 months.  Are there any particular reasons a new pak release needs to go with an official exe release?  Are there any features that pak128.Britain is currently not supporting that need to be added in order to work with the new official release?  I could probably make enough time to do remaining updates, but not finish the snow images.

Apart from some tools, which could be included to netowrking: There were a couple of bugs fixed within the last year (releasing once a year is ok, or?). Anyway, with your permission I just would upload the current state as 1.09 to sourceforge, taking pressure from you.

Prissi, if you get time to go ahead and release a 1.09 version from current SVN then please do, it's appreciated.  I found some time this morning to catch up on a couple of bits as I'm off today, but realistically I won't be finishing the snow images project before Christmas.  You are right - it has been way too long since a release and we need one (even if it won't quite be as complete as I was hoping).  In the meantime, if there are any new features that I've missed that need incorporating, if anyone can make a list for me that would be great.

We need, I think, to set up the pakset configuration to take advantage of the two new tools in the Standard nightlies (block reservation and show owner); what configuration changes are needed to do this? I have never really looked into the bowels of the menu system.

You can just assign two simple tools 33 and 34 with a letter liek simple_tool[33]=,B and simple_tool[34]=,O would assign "B" for show block reservation and "O" to show ownership.

Prissi, firstly a big thanks for doing all of those tidies.  I've made sure my local copies reflect these changes.  Is there anything else I need to do at this end?

I did only formal changes. Any thing related with game mechanics need to come from your side ...

I'm not planning on anything gameplay-wise any time soon.  I'm just producing new graphics mostly.  Some day there will need to be a massive balancing exercise, but I'm putting that off until I've got all the vehicles drawn for air and boat.

Thank you - that's most helpful. I do like the new tools!
