A new version of Simutrans-Experimental is available to-day: Simutrans 110.0.6 Experimental 9.9. See
here for more information on how to download, install and set up the latest version. For those already familiar with the installation and setup, here are some quick links:

  • Windows binaries
  • Linux binaries (x64) (to follow)
  • Linux binaries (i386) (to follow)
  • Linux binaries (i386 - no graphics server) (to follow)
  • Configuration files (New for this version)

Both Makeobj and the configuration files have changed for this release. The new version of Makeobj supports the new liveries feature. Simutrans-Experimental 9.9 fixes bugs in version 9.8 (including crashes relating to electricity generation that caused problems with the DeMangler's online server, and also including significant errors in the calculation of costs and revenues), and incorporates all of the most recent changes from Standard, including the factory boost system. That system includes a new method for specifying the electricity consumption of factories; Experimental has had a way of modifying the electricity consumption of factories for some time using the "electricity_percentage" parameter, however, it is recommended that the new parameters from the factory boost be used in future, although the existing "electricity_percentage" parameter will work in its original way if the new parameters are not specified.

The liveries feature is also incorporated: although there are currently not any liveries enabled paksets released, there is a work in progress version of Pak128.Britain-Ex with a few vehicles with different liveries on the Github repository. Pakset developers are encouraged to test the liveries feature with this latest release.

Inkelyad's spacing shift is also included.

The fixes from Standard include crashes on deleting crossings and problems with the longblock signal. Only Experimental changes are shown below.

Changes

  • FIX: When the replacer was set to "mark for replacing", the convoy was set to "no load" in any event.
  • FIX: Scale factor was set incorrectly for all things that scale with the distance.
  • FIX: Only show error messages associated with sending vehicles to a depot to the player whose vehicles are being sent to the depot.
  • FIX: Do not show shcedule related error messages to players other than those to whom the messages relate.
  • FIX: Do not show depot messages of other players.
  • FIX: Inaccurate calculations of some long journeys (with thanks to Knightly)
  • FIX: Building maintenance costs were calculated incorrectly.
  • FIX: View of vehicles in the depot not properly updated when a new vehicle bought in network mode.
  • FIX: Incorrect calculation of floor revenue for speed bonus adjusted items.  Now set to 1/10th of original price.
  • FIX: Erroneous scaling of goods/passenger revenues.
  • FIX: Incorrect calculation of comfort-related revenue adjustment.
  • CHANGE: There is now a line space between entries showing connected halts in the halt detail window.
  • FIX: Electrical anomalies
  • ADD: 'Shift' parameter to line spacing feature. (Inkelyad)
  • ADD: Liveries
  • FIX: Depot messages are only shown for the active player.
  • FIX: Passengers who could walk to their destination were not properly accounted for.
  • FIX: Speed limit adjustment for corners was not calculated correctly.

Feedback and testing

Thanks also to all those who have tested Simutrans-Experimental and provided useful feedback: it is very much appreciated. Any feedback from this version would, as ever, also be very much appreciated, including (1) online play (see here for a list of Simutrans-Experimental servers); (2) general bug reports; (3) information as to how well-balanced that the game is; (4) any difference in approach/strategy needed for Simutrans-Experimental as over Simutrans-Standard; and (5) any other useful feedback.

Thanks again to all those who have worked to test Simutrans-Experimental, and happy playing!
