City of Cody, population 2106, January, 1946

First the pics, then the story:

Once upon a time in the city of Littleville, a gifted baby was born.  The mother knew her baby would be gifted, early in the pregnancy, and had expressed this to members of her family and friends.  When the child became old enough to enter school, it became apparent to all that indeed, the child was very intelligent.  All eagerly awaited the time when the little one would become a man to see what this child would accomplish.  Cody did grow up and although he impressed people with his vast knowledge and often gave them sound advice when they sought his council, the citizens were somewhat dismayed that he lacked ambition.

The city became prosperous and the intelligent young man relegated to anonymity.  To a great extent the railroad was responsible for the city's prosperity.  Passengers from the hub city of Davidson traveled to Cody to go both north and south in the western part of the country.  Time changes things however and sometimes not for the best.

The transportation company built a railroad from Davidson to Mars Hill.  This siphoned off a huge amount of Littleville's traffic and with it their prosperity.  At a loss as to what to do, the city fathers sought out young Cody and found him at home playing a video game.  Cody advised them to build an observatory near the railroad station.  This, he argued, would bring tourists to the city and would persuade many when forming travel plans to take the Littleville route in favor of the Mars Hill route.  The observatory was built.

Within weeks the city was prospering again.  The citizens, who were very thankful to the young man, insisted he be given a job at the new observatory.  He was given a job and with the impressive title of Chief Observer.  Not only that but the citizens renamed their town Cody in his honor.

Most still hold the young man in high regard but some complain that upon visiting him at the observatory, they found him in a tiny room playing Simutrans on his computer.
