I know the year I currently play at, 1860, is somewhat outside pak64's proper timeline, but some cities are about 50% parks, which look rather silly. Is this some lack of diversity among available buildings, or something else?

A time ago I used to complain about the "lack of parks"... well, I now feel teased. :<

Parks is fine, but this is overdoing it. Sorry about the crappy quality of the screen shot, but I didn't want to ensure that some 3rd party file hoster kept the image at the same URL for as long as this post lasts, so I had to squeeze hard to make the file small enough for an attachment. I think it's still possible to see where there are buildings, and where there is just green stuff.

Irfanview with "Save for web" usually gets good result within 64 kB ...

Is the lower land is desert? I think there is only the park available in that setting. I observe something like this only one very rare occasions.

The city is in mediterranean climate.

Obviously the people in those cities REALLY REALLY appreciate the outdoors. lol

I haven't got much sample size, but it does seem to affect mediterranean climate cities more than temperate or tundra cities. In fact, the latter cities don't appear to have these parks at all (but a more reasonable number of another park type).

Upload here: http://simutrans-germany.com/files/, leave "0" in "Days valid" for no expiration date.
Or here: http://imgur.com/, this deletes the image only if it's not accessed for 6 months.

Both are third party, and the latter will delete the image. I hate it when I read something that refers to something that is important to understanding the text, but the link is broken. I do however believe what I was trying to show is visible even in the thumbnail. (I also overdid the compression, but didn't bother going back up in quality.)
