Appears to be a bug in pavement.dat, where image 12 is repeated, therefore snow image is not displayed for south facing slopes...
Image[12]=pavement.1.1
should be
Image[13]=pavement.1.1

Thanks for the report. Haven't had chance to verify or make changes, but I will do when I do get time.
Fixed now - though it did occur to me that you have SVN access and I certainly wouldn't object if you wanted to make changes yourself...
