This is my first truck for Simutrans, Jockey TABF (the name is invented) I'm doing the first tests because someday I would like to start a roadtrain pak... ::).... I'll create 4 or 5 long trucks.

You're right. That img is in 128pak scale. I'll post some screenscaps later (I'm supposed to be working although the boss is not here right now... ::))

Its height is 9 pixels. I might do it smaller but It loses a lot of detail. In real life is a medium truck. I reserve 10-11 px for large trucks and road-trains.... ;D

Well, you're quite right. The point is that the first set of wheels corresponds to the cabin. The rest corresponds to the "trailer". Sometimes is due to the render, that do not represents the wheels correctly due to the scale. I've tried to fixed it with GIMP, but It's not easy.. :-\

Anyway, all wheel configurations are "real". I mean, I've used real photographs to create the models, they're not invented. I guess that If the truck is long, heavy and slow, config A is better to support the weight.  If the truck is small, fast and light, you have to use config B to distribute the weight along trailer's structure . It's just a supposition...

Other thing is that in all those trucks, or at least all half cab ones (Jockey and Austin models), the cabin tends to be independent from the trailer. So you can have 3 sets of wheels ( 2+1 in Jockey TABF or 1+2 in Holland) or even four ( 1+3 in Jockey mixer)

Kenworth KC-104 B is almost finished. The bad news is that do not exist loading bays big enough to fill the whole convoy. It consist of three units (1 cab + 2 trailers) and you need a tile for each two units, so with the existing stops is not possible to fill it completly.. :(....but don't worry, I'll create something...... ;D

P.S: I don't know if there's any constraint about having 2x1 loading bays, Any idea?

What I had in mind is to create both versions. A large terminal loading bay which will go at the end of a road track and a large continous loading bay that has two exits/entries. I guess I will use the current loading bay graphics..

I doubt that it will work that way. AFAIK there's a difference between a building that is placed next to a way (=extension) and one that is placed on a way (=stop).

Perhaps I used the wrong example. I didn't mean you code it is as an extension building, but I guess It's possible because large train stations exist.

I think a possible dat file for that could be..

...and you need to create a 2x1 stop from the single tile stop png file (http://simutrans.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/simutrans/pak64/player/ls-loadbay.png?revision=19). What I don't remember is if terminal stops, which are placed at the end of a road track, need to be 1x1 size or can be larger. If there's any restriction in that sense, I guess it also may be coded as a busstop with enables_ware=1, so that it can manage freights too.

Any stop with a way must be 1x1 currently. Simutrans cannot handle larger ones. However, with the layout=8 you can make loading bays that change grphics when extenden. I think vilvoh did this in the old archive once.

I had working stops in pak128 that used the end loading dock to make a bus stop-like extension as a separate stop right after it became possible to have more than 2 units (a truck plus 3 trailers, for example).  I don't know what I did what that, but it looked just like the single access loading bay in the picture on the first page.  Road trains never went mainstream, so neither did my loading dock.  It's good to see they are making a surge here. :)

Anyway, you mean to use Dims=2,1,8 instead of Dims=2,1,4 following this scheme? I may need some help...could anybody give me a quick explanation about how to code it in the dat file, please?

No, as prissi wrote, you can only place 1x1 sized objects on any way.

So for a station, it must be dims=1,1,x (and x can be 2, 4, 8 or 16)

Anyway, here's the most important words for the dims table:

Weg=way
Mittelteil=middle part
Endteil=end part
Einzelteil=single part
Nord=north
Süd=south
Ost=east
West=west (difficult one, I know  ;D)

With those, the graphics shown there and a little experimenting, you'll probably get it working pretty soon.

There's a thing I still don't understand. If I've read correctly, the use of 1,1,8 or 1,1,16 as Dims implies the station has only 2 rotations, doesn't it? I mention this becasue the original one is 1,1,4 that means four rotations, and as far as I've read, if you implement the large version following that scheme seems it will have only two rotations, am I right? therefore, it will be like a bus stop with exits-entrances by both sides, which was not what I had in mind... :-\

BTW, Is there any sample of this somewhere in the SVN? Perhaps the large dock?

Back to trucks and road trains, I've finished the Kenworth KC-104B and it's ready for downloading. You've to build mixed stops to use it, until I create the new loading bay (see screenshots). I couldn't resist so I've added some extra images of the road train overtaking other vehicles and it looks awesome!! I love this game!!.... ;D

Thanks for the info Giziar, I knew somebody had done something. The author is Timothy....direct link to the 64pak loading bays (http://archive.forum.simutrans.com/topic/01740.0/index.html)

It uses a different approach, imho quite more simple. He coded a terminus loading bay that is placed at the end of the road, and another loading bay through that goes in front of the terminus one, like and extension building. You've two different buttons but this way you can build loading bays as large as you want. It's the most reasonable way to implement it, a must-have if you want to play with road trains.... :)

I usually create this trucks to transport freights which don't have a lot of vehicles available. Sometimes you only have one as happens with steel, sand, cement, etc..at least in pak64. So I try to fill those gaps with these trucks.

Btw, I've found the history behind Cracker Box's nick.

I've finished those two ones: GMC 238 CrackerBox and Mack MB A-P-A. Both are light trucks with medium capacity, arround 85 km/h, 18 tn and running cost of 7.10 cr/km.

Thanks. I'm glad you like them..they're quite balanced and the graphics are simple but effective. Btw, the next truck I'm going to create will be perhaps another road train or a steel/iron small truck.

The last one from now will be this Kentworth K104 NZ for transporting logs and planks..

I've to fix some details like the logs texture to avoid the grainy effect and the metallic material for the trailer, but it's almost finished. I'll use a different color scheme for each version: black for logs and blue for planks.

I couldn't resist to make this huge truck called Sharpwood 350 Titan. It's quite similar to another existing one on pak64, but that was imho quite small so I decided to make a slightly bigger version. After all, it's heavy mining truck, isn't it? Obviously It'll transport a large amount of bulk goods (coal, sand, stone and probably iron ore)

I was talking with Zeno when I realized that its real name is Terex Titan 33-13, and was the world biggest truck (now is Liebherr T282, which is also in my list.. ;D)

It's really huge:

It can transport sand, stone, coal and iron ore (mainly, arids and bulk goods) and well, I think it fits on the scale (it's bigger than MHz's one, of course) Only recommended for moving large amounts of goods to short range distances....enjoy!!  :)

What a monster :) You could hijack some unused waytype and code it as a train, to simulate that it needs the whole road for itself.

Yay! That's amazing to hear. It has been pretty much irritating to pursue a BookShop line due to the default Paper vehicle having low carrying capacity and the fact that you only have it as a choice for a Veeeeeeeeery long time. Indeed you can use trains, but it doesn't really pay much so you'll just gonna exhaust your funds.

I'm going to wait for these, thanks for confirming vilvoh. =D

Peterbilt 344 DTx series (Logs and Planks) and Kenworth KCD 825-C (paper) finished.

There's a problem, for those like Moppi who want to create profitable paper lines. By the tests I've done, that good is extremly low profitable. The max income you can get with KCD 825-C is 600 cr. with a payload of 28 rolls (cab+trailer)!!.. so if the distance between paper factory and print is medium or long, I recommend not to use trucks, but large trains instead or you'll probably go bankrupt. Enjoy with the trucks!  :)

I'm not really going for profits in regards with the paper, i just find the default truck not having a much bigger capacity daunting (add to that as i already mentioned, you only have it as a choice in terms of trucks for the entire duration of your save) specially when the Printing Works eat Paper Fast. Sometimes the distance between the Paper Factory and the Printing works isn't really that far so trucks are more space friendly for me.

Ok. The truth is that I usually do not play as much as I would like to, and although I always test the vehicles in game, I actually don't realize some of those details that usual players tend to notice.

Btw, I'm finishing another version of Kenworth, called KCD 825-B with a little bit more capacity (almost 30 rolls)

Kenworth KCD 825-B ready for downloading. It's quite similar to 825-C, but with different color, a little bit more capacity, speed, cost and running cost. We could say it's more advanced than 825-C.

Btw, the Mercedes is almost finished. I'll post the pak file tomorrow.

You will also need "makeobj" (on Ubuntu, I just did "sudo apt-get install simutrans-makeobj") and then after downloading the matching .png and .dat files, call makeobj as:

makeobj PAK output-filename.pak input-datfile-you-downloaded.dat

note it may have to be PAK in all caps... with some of vilvoh's older pakfiles like the Truck Docks, I had to change "type=carstop" to "type=stop" and a new line "waytype=road"

Then put the .pak files in your pak/ directory.

p.s., is addons.simutrans.com even updated since about two years ago?

If not and you don't want to learn... there is one easy method. Put in one folder the program (makeobj.exe) and your thingies. Create shortcut to program. Edit it, and where it says blahblahblah\makeobj.exe, append at the end of text one space and then this:

pak ./ ./

This is for size 64. If the objects are for different pak size, like 128, you append the number directly after pak, like this:

pak128 ./ ./

Hi Vilvoh, great job making those trucks. I'm making my first busses too but I run into a problem. When i compile my .dat and . pgn file with pack helper, it does the pack correctly but then when I run simutrans I can't find my vechicle. ps I got all eras enabled, dat file made from simutrans source to avoid mistakes, and my png was made from template, i used shades and thats all. In what part I screwed?

the gear value must be a integer number not a float (125 instead of 1.25). Moreover the reference to the image must have the same name as the image without the file extension name. Your png image is funkobus.png but the reference from the dat file is wg. Rename the png image as wg.png or change the dat reference to the image as funkobus. With all these changes, it should work, see the screenshot...
