I tested it of course before release, and it worked ... could you be a little more specific?

When I used the installer, I think there was some sort of error message with pak64 and pak64 japan that was installed with an older installer. Both of the previously installed paks were renamed to 'old' and a new version of the pakset was installed.

This is only a notifier, not an actual error message. Since still people copy stuff to those folders, I did not want to delete them silently during the update. But a different notifications is also possible.

I'm assuming the installer does a quick hash check to compare the new version to the old?
assuming it doesn't slow down the install process too much, could it not just check against older versions and give a message like " pakyz version x.xx found, updating to version x.xx"?

It just checks the version string in ground.outside.pak. No hashing is done, as this is not trivial for directories in NSIS unfourtunately.

ah, okay. in that case, it is no big deal.
just a message like "older version found. creating folder for new version." should suffice.
