Title: Dining cars
Post by: Julia on August 26, 2012, 06:22:46 PM
Is there any economic significance to dining cars (eg. more revenue per passenger)? Or are they just to add  realism?

Nothing special in the standard version, just aesthetic reasons. Maybe experimental guys make better use of them.

Dining cars do by right choose in experimental make money and they do lift the Catering level.
Trains in experimental they have a Dining car in the convoy they are by the passenger be like as trains without a Dining car.

At a guess you are using pak128.Britain, which is the only set which has a significant number of dining cars. They don't have any gameplay role in the standard version but do in experimental. Incidentally, I'm considering removing them from the standard pakset to reduce clutter and avoid confusion - I'd be interested in your thoughts on that.

I like the fact that there are dining class coaches even if they are just eye candy in standard. Maybe to reduce clutter, they could be put in one file so that they can be easily deleted if someone does not want to play with them.

Maybe a bit off topic, I was wondering what is the role of braking cars/vans. My trains seem to run perfectly without them...

In Standard Simutrans, a vehicle can carry single load (though mixing within a category seems possible), provide pulling power, or both. That's pretty much all as far as I know.

Yes, pakset128.Britain it is. I quite like having the option, as well as the TPO cars, it makes a change from mechanically adding plain carriages and a parcels brake in every formation. I'd use them more if my major passenger trains weren't full to bursting :)

If I've started a game on this pakset, I presume I can't switch to the experimental one mid-game?

No, I'm afraid you can't.

The idea will be that there will still be  full version of pak128.Britain available for standard as well as a simplified version.
