Graphics definitely look promising for that game, although it would be interesting to see how large their worlds are. Looks like they're going for a cross between Simutrans/OpenTTD and Railroad Tycoon/Railroads - wonder how they'll balance the micro and macromanagement aspects.
Not so sure about their funding model I have to say, investing in just that game rather than the company isn't that good (game flops, you lose money, game successful, return is limited to initial version and they have kickstarted their company), Also 1 year to develop the game with a full time team when there's already a playable alpha seems a bit strange...
The UI is unfourtunately from OpenTTD, with all the management per vehicle, but with simutrans routes, and simcity like destination pedestrians and citycars. (I wonder how this works out on larger than those tiny maps in the demo.)

Actually, that is the thing I am worried about: With real 3D you need much much larger maps.
It's impressive, anyway.
But I have split feelings: while is flexible, detailed and beautiful, and I feel tempted to play it... I'd say, the best way to kill the soul of a toy is making it look realistic so that there's no room left for fantasy and imagination. :(
It is beautiful. I very possibly will buy it and play for a bit just for that reason. The game play however, and this will probably sound odd coming from an RP'er, doesn't sound interesting. It sounds pretty much like a different version of level your character so you can fight bigger, badder monsters. I'm done with that.
If it truly is a non-linear, develop your own strategy game, then I could get pretty excited about it. Unless I have a huge change of heart I will not be funneling any of my limited investing dollars that way simply because I have no feel for what people like.
Baidu has some view of Bejing, where same where familar buildings from some addons were "based" on. If you look at the rooftops, you see repeating structures. But also some other detail hint that at least some structures were rather from procedural images. See here:
