Title: Connect rail to electricity network
Post by: hreintke on October 07, 2012, 09:20:06 AM
LS,

Checked the documentation but cannot find it, if I overlooked please point to the place to go for.

Running PAK64.
I have railtrack and added the high speed overhead lines to it.
I have a powerpant with a transformer next to it (windpower so it produces energy).
But when i build powerlines to connect the to overheadlines the powerlines go over the track and do not connect.

So the question is : How do I connect the overheadlines to the electricity network to be able to run electric trains on it ?

Kind regards,

Herman

You can't and you don't need to. Overhead lines for rail and the general power network have nothing to do with each other in the game. Just build the overhead lines, buy an electric train (or tram) and you're ready to go.

Thanks,

I didn't had the ability to buy electric trains, that's why I was looking for the connection.
Now I found the error I made. The overhead lines have to go into the depot, not from the depot. So extending the overhead line by one tile made it work.

It is irrelevant if they were built from depot or into depot. Also you may build them before bulilding of depot - and still it will be the same.

That's an error that might be difficult to spot, but I think it makes sense once you think about it.

Since hreintke also wrote that the overhead line was extended with one tile to fix the problem, I assume "from" meant "from the front door" not "from the inside".

Yes Ters,  what I meant to say is "from the front door".
I started the trains without electricity and then also build the depot. When adding the overhead lines I started just before the depot instead of from the inside of the depot.

And yes, it surely makes sense, how would a train be able to leave the depot without electricity and indeed difficult to spot visually as you cannot see whether the depot is electrified. Altough, as soon as you open the depot you notice whether there are electric trains available, and now I know how to solve.

But maybe somewhere in the documentation a hint might be helpfull.

now that it's mentioned, it would be nice if the electric train required a power connection, no?

Oh, we had a short discussion about it here: http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=9377.0
