Title: Minimap zoom level correction
Post by: Václav on November 29, 2012, 10:27:30 AM
I found ... and it is for a quite long time (maybe from beginning) that level of zoom in minimap dialogue is displayed in wrong way. And now it is time for correction - because I cannot see it any more (because it makes me to laugh and upset together).

In basic zoom there is 1:1 - that right.

But when minimap is zoomed out, there is for example 2:1 - instead 1:2. Or when minimap is zoomed in, there is for example 1:3 instead 3:1.

It is something that is is against common map system. In case of minimap zoomed out it is like if you write that map has scale 50000:1 - because that would mean that one centimeter of real world is depicted in fifty thousand centimeters of map.

Or said simply:
When zoom level goes out, must be 1:number that goes up
When zoom level goes in, must be number that goes up:1

Quote for truth.

D'oh! I feel ashamed now, as project designer, I have never noticed that before. The standards establishes A:B or A/B as notations for numeric scales for technical drawings, whereas X>Y is a shrinking* scale and X<Y as magnifying* scale.

*- not sure if I wrote correctly in English those technical terms I know in Portuguese. ^^'

In scope of this, it is clear that it was wrote as it is - but really this is not technical drawing. :)

Ok, I swapped the numers. But maybe then the arrows need swapping too?

Do you think arrows that are used to change zooming of minimap? Surely not.

Change arrow to + and - symbols then.

Or even better, to an icon with magnifying glass and + or minus, like it's now widespread standard e.g. in Google maps.

Fabio, I am worried about that magnifying glass icon would not be good due to size - when texts are in size of 8, then icon of magnifying glass  of this size would not look good.

So I rather vote for only plus and minus.

Well, it could be an icon and then up to paksets the choice of what to paint, be it plus/minus, magnifying glass, or whatever can fit in 8*8 px.
