Title: Help me understand single one way signs
Post by: opetholic on January 20, 2013, 12:06:30 PM
Hello everyone,
I am a new simutrans player and I am trying to understand the use of train signals. Attached you will find a very simple scenario where there are 2 trains waiting for clearance at the two stations. The tracks have as you will see 4 single one way signs indicating that the upper track is going from East-West and lower from West-East. I don't understand why the trains are stuck. If someone could please explain I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Probably because these are just signs, not signals - so trains reserve all the way through, even onto the single track sections. Press "b" to see reservations in game. Instead of 4 signs you just need 2 signals (correctly placed) to make this setup work.

This also might be of use: You can change regular signals from bi-directional to uni-directional (one-way). After building it, click again on it, with the signal building tool still active. It will change it to one uni-directional form. Another click reverses the direction, and a third click returns it to it's bi-directional state.
