Probably related to the 1-tile thing which doesn't work very well. I think Neroden's suggestions of the slower transfer would be a preferable adaptation than the strict 1-tile rule. Either way, you should just need to build some stations and goods should begin to fill the station with destination unknown; it will be discarded regularly, but will simply fill up again.

I have the issue in my current game.
I have not had a chance to look into this yet - I plan to fix the other issue relating to freight distribution to stations before checking to see whether this can be reproduced.
Can you compile and try again with the latest commits?
