NOTE: It's my first day.
I had my train route set up perfectly. Freight train was set to go to the oil field, then to the refinery. When my train pulled into the oil yard, lo and behold, "Train cannot find route". What, can the train not turn around?
Here, have a screenshot:http://i.imgur.com/OClVPud.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/OClVPud.jpg)
Maybe at some place the tracks are not properly connected... but I'm afraid, it's impossible to tell from the screenshot.
Whatever the reason, the train really can turn around, so that is not the problem.
Tips to test connection of tracks:
1) Just build the track again with overlapping trajectories (don't remove anything, otherwise it will cost you something)
2) Check bridges especially, you rarely have visible clues there. Rebuild the track up and including the first (or last) bridge tile.
3) Put a waypoint halfway between the oil field and the refinery. If it can find a route to the waypoint you know the problem is behind it, if it can't find a route to the waypoint you know the problem is before it. Repeat the procedure on the problematic part of the track and you are bound to find the problem. A bit of work to do, but guarantees success.
Good luck!

These all seem like good ideas. Thanks; I'll report back if it doesn't work.
Oh well, that's not working. Now then, how do I call trains back to the depot?
Oh, so it works after building over the whole track, track which had no visible signs of error. Okay, Simutrans.
other way to detect - send test train out (without wagons or carriages) to do test runs
this like in real life - if test train detects broken rail or dissconnected rail then its stops there

It will stop at the last waypoint before the broken section, not where the break is. That is, unless the track was broken after the train passed the waypoint.
