So a lot of times when I'm working on a map using public service, I want to choose a different road for a short segment, which means clicking. I had a thought on how to make this easier: Two hotkeys; one to increment and one to decrement the current selection.
I have two ideas on how to make it work, whichever would be easier:
1. Look at what tool is selected.
2a. If there are multiple types (roads or rails) available, choose the next/previous one
2b. If 2a doesn't work, look at the toolbar itself and choose the tool to the right or left of the current tool (and wrap edges)
I hope that makes sense and is easy. :) It would really indirectly extend the power of the "s" and "t" keys. :)
Also, while I'm here, it would be amazingly handy to have a shortcut key for road bridges, elevated roads; perhaps rail bridges/elevated, too.
(I have never gotten custom function keys working)
