What it says in the title.
It looks like it's working fine as far as I can see. The background color specified by the theme is applied. White if the theme has no settings.

# Chat window transparency (0=off, 25, 50 75 are possible)
chat_transparency = 0
Note that "0" is transparency off, as described in simconf.tab.
Thanks, but could it be that this is a server setting and thus it doesn't have any effect if I change it locally?

It works. Is it possible that the theme you have edited is not the theme that you have selected in the game? Personally I saved the edited theme under a new name to make sure that I got the theme that I wanted, because several themes have confusingly similar names:

P.S. I also think it's possible that the Nightly Updater will overwrite themes if you use existing ones.
Themes? We have themes? I'll have a look...
I found the setting now, thanks!
I should note that themes are now built nightly on the Bridgewater-Brunel server, so you should all be able to get the latest version of the themes from there in future.
I will now mark this topic as closed.
It seems that nobody actually wants transparent chat. Should we maybe set the default to 'not transparent'?

That would be sensible. It is quite hard to see the text when transparent. I think that the latest themes provide for non-transparent chat.
