The last stable version 123.0.1. - r10421 does not show any heightmaps to be loaded. As far as I can remember the previous stable 123.0. was also affected.
The simu.log file in the Documents folder says:
Quote
ERROR: height_map_loader_t::get_height_data_from_file: Cannot read heightmap file 'maps/..'
For help with this error or to file a bug report please see the Simutrans forum:

I tested on Windows, via steam and manual download, with the same result.
I do not get an error but warnings instead (with no maps being displayed anyway):
Warning: raw_image_t::read_ppm: Heightfield has wrong color depth (must be 255)

Should be fixed in r10438. Not sure if this is the same issue as in the first post, though.
That does indeed fix the thing for me.
@ML can you re-test with r10438? It should be available from Steam in the "nightly" beta branch in aprox. 5 hours from now or in any moment from https://github.com/aburch/simutrans/releases/tag/Nightly
Just tested in r10438 and it is fixed. The heightmap window takes some time to load, but I guess that could be caused by the number of maps in the folder (the notebook is not a top performer and I do have 10 - 15 maps stored).
Thanks for the fix!
It also occurs to me that compared to some older versions of Simutrans (years 2013 - 2016) the same heightmaps give different results in terms of heights, but I guess that comes down to the introduction of double-heights and load modes which I have missed in my previous simutrans-free years.
We have just had a request for help on the Discord server, which turned out to be this bug.
I wonder whether you would consider a 123.0.2 that makes the fix available to everyone, Prissi?
FYI we have had another help request about this bug (https://www.reddit.com/r/simutrans/comments/1bzr807/how_to_include_custom_heightmaps_into/) on Reddit. I know that Prissi is hard at work on a new release so hopefully it's encouraging to know that there are players eagerly awaiting the bugfixes in it. Thank you also to ceeac for fixing it. :coffee:
