For years I only used 200 x 200 maps. Recently I started using 500 x 500 maps with a maximum of 50 cities. But I have noticed that some of you play on much bigger maps.
I create city name files because when a map has city names that are familiar to me it helps keep me interested for longer.
Looking at my active maps, my main map is 3072x3072, and then I have a 2500x256 multiplayer map I play with a friend.
So yeah much bigger than just 500x500 :p

Wow!!! That's amazing. It never even occurred to me that we can play maps that big. How many cities and factories do you have on a 3072 x 3072 map?

Cities is around 150ish, but factories are little to none. But then again that 3073 map I'm designing everything myself so building the cities/factories myself too. So it'll get more eventually.
I usually play multi player maps with 4 to 6 other people. Map size there is around 1000x1000 usually, leaving around 380x380 per player
Currently I'm playing a 900x900 map with 81 cities. Every year I place 10 new attractions and factories come as they come (initially zero).
I'm contemplating a map of 2700x2700 with 729 cities, but maybe I will only seriously play it after retirement... :-)
Wow again!!! I have been playing Simutrans for many years, but there is so much about this wonderful game that I don't know or have never tried. Now that I am retired maybe I will take the time to try some new things.
I don't remember the precise dimensions, but my favorite is to play ~8000x32 or x16 even. I have played x8, and while that's fun, it is a bit narrow as I like building an "interstate" freeway, which requires fences to keep city roads from taking over, so 4 tiles wide near cities. lol.
