Title: Is anyone else out there reluctant to delete old maps?
Post by: Antonin on March 04, 2024, 03:52:45 AM
We bought this computer in 2020. Since then I have started maps in pak64, pak64.Japan, pak128, pak128.Britain, pak128.Japan and pak192.Comic. I also have Simutrans on a flash drive somewhere, with maps I started on our previous computer. Eventually I get a little bit bored with playing a particular map and stop playing it. I then start a new one with maybe a different city list, or with a different start date.

But I rarely delete a map. Sometimes I go back to one and continue where I left off, and it almost seems like a new game. It's almost as if the cities of my maps are living things, and I would almost feel guilty about deleting them.

Yesterday I went back to an old pak128.Britain map and began to rename all my routes to the system I have been using in recent years.

In my current pak192.Comic game, which has a start date of 1990, I have connected almost every industry and city, and I wonder if I will be able to delete it after it is done. Maybe I will just expand the map, add some cities and industries and continue.

Does anyone else find themselves reluctant to delete an old map?

I start a map and intend to "complete" it and usually get distracted. But they're all still out there in case I ever decide to go back and play them. Which I never do. But I totally would. lol

Oh, and I forgot...I also have maps that I began in pak64.German and pak128.German. I sometimes go back and play on my different pak64 maps, but not often. They are good paks and I appreciate the work that others did to make them so playable, but it is difficult for my 66 year old eyes to handle pak64 maps and the vehicles that use them.

Nothing to see here, sir, just 10% of my disk in Simutrans save files....  :-[

I have similar 'feelings' towards my saves.
I rarely play older games, but when I read their file names, I instantly have vivid memories of when I played them, and I just can't delete this files.
Maybe, sometime, I'll continue to evolve the map. Maybe, someday. You never know =) lol

Me too, every time I see the old save file name, so many memories come flooding back, even though I know for sure I won't be able to come back and play it, I still can't bear to delete it - who knows, maybe one day I'll continue to build that map.  ;D
