Title: 24/25 November 2024 - Welcome to the new server!
Post by: Isaac Eiland-Hall on November 25, 2024, 02:54:55 AM
It will take me some time to get all the sites up and running, but everything has now been transferred to the new server.

If you access a Simutrans website and it loads a page from daychilde.com — I'm still working on getting SSL set up. I have to do it manually for each domain and subdomain, so it'll take a little time.

But the forum is here and seems nice and quick. :)

Yes, the forum on the old server was put into maintenance mode so that any further visitors there wouldn't post things that would not be on the new server. :)

ATTENTION: JAPANESE COMMUNITY

Unfortunately, neither of your main sites are loading. I've been trying to figure out why and so far I haven't figured it out, I'm very sorry to say.

I've run out of time for tonight. I will continue, but I do need to give access to the folks in charge of running the sites, so please do contact me.

I sincerely apologize for the downtime. :(

Thank you for your efforts.

External DNS subdomains like translator.simutrans.com, servers.simutrans.org are not working.

When you have time, please check the DNS server entires. The former has an alternative DNS makie.de/translator and the latter servers.simutrans-forum.de.

(Also simutrans.com still advertised for 124.1 version, so if someone is checking the website, please update this.)

Translator DNS entries added - looks like it didn't 'restore' DNS entries for domains that didn't exist on the server. Servers already done thanks to earlier email.

Working on granting access to a couple of the sites including .com so hopefully updated soon :)

Japanese still down hard and I'm struggling to get error messages to troubleshoot. I've gotten through two distinct problems so far. grr

Status: Japanese sites logins given to appropriate staff.

It took me a long time to get php errors for japanese.simutrans.com but I have them now. Unfortunately, it seems that the site will not run as-is on PHP 8.1, which is all I have available. :/

Now I'm going to go look at their forum site and see what I can find there.

I have fixed a couple of issues that got things farther, mind - a couple of apache modules that hadn't been enabled.

edit: It's the same error on the forum site. Next step is to see if we can get that software updated. :/

forum.japanese.simutrans.com
13699 MB

japanese.simutrans.com
3237 MB

If they can update the software, I can host it. And if they can't, I may be able to give it a go and try to update the software if it's just overwriting the files...

The addon site I could host, I think, that space I have left on my server for sure. But I am not sure it can be easily updated. Can you pm me a link to the data? I would give it a try.
With the japanese forum, I have to check. I think they upgraded my plan to 50 GB sometime ago. But then, the forum should have a newer version compatible with php8.

...

The software has not been developed since 2006 ! as far as I know.

So the only option is to change the software, but that would mean a lot of work.

In the meantime, Pukiwiki was still maintained.

Is it the only option? We could run the software in a container with an older php version (https://hub.docker.com/r/touch4it/docker-php7).

Especially on the web, it is irresponsible to use outdated software.

It should be checked beforehand whether the applications used are still running when the server is updated or whether they require an update.

This might also be the reason why the Scenario page no longer works.

I'm adding AAAA records for the IPv6 now, but IPv4 should be there from a couple of days ago now:

Propagation check shows wrong IP:

Looking into it. MEH.

Annoyingly, I had to bump my topic... but I have gotten one reply. I've checked what they gave me to look at and gave them more information. No progress so far except that at least the dialogue has begun. :)

Translator site should start working soon or immediately for most - depending on propagation.

Problem: I imported all the sites from the old server. I created a site for that subdomain on the old server because that was the easiest way to do it. On the new server, it got imported. Then I added the DNS records to the simutrans.com zone, BUT translator.simutrans.com already had its own zone, so it used that to return the shared server IP.

I have updated the IP in the proper zone. LAter I'll probably remove the virtual server as it's not needed and just have the DNS entry......
