Shortly after loading the save linked below, the game freezes. It has been very unresponsive upon loading for a while already, but pausing immediately then letting it run in fast forward for a couple of IRL hours did the trick until Thursday. Since then, the game freezes completely a few seconds after loading.

Thank you for the report - I think that this is now fixed. Please check the latest CI builds or to-morrow's nightly build for the fixed version.
Now it won't load at all and shows an "Incompatible saved game. Cannot load file." message.

Can I check which version that you are using?
#67f5cd1, pakset #7215850

That is very odd - I cannot reproduce this locally. Where did you get the binary and what OS are you using?
I have tried several CI artifacts on Windows 11
Can I check that you are using the original saved game that you posted here not one resaved later than that?
The AI has found that the CI builds are currently not built with zstd support, and your game is compressed with zstd. The Bridgewater-Brunel binaries (https://bridgewater-brunel.me.uk/downloads/nightly/windows/) should work with zstd and carry the fix to your saved game problem. I am reconfiguring the CI builds to use zstd now.
Edit: Having checked, the Bridgewater-Brunel binaries do not yet contain the fix: they should work to-morrow. The CI binaries should soon work, however. Apologies.
The CI works. Thanks!

Excellent! It should be a bit faster, too, as we have a new optimisation.
And the game runs smoothly from the beginning, too!
